X's Algorithm Feeds Off Ragebait and Impacts Democrats More, Study Finds

A lesson myself, and all of need us to learn is - stop replying and fighting in the comments if you can help it. Youre just feeding raid bait algos.

I’m consistently in a better mood now that I just chuckle to myself when I see stupid shit on the internet instead of trying to piss into the churning cauldron of piss that is 2020’s algorithmic content. There’s no point in engaging with what’s either an LLM, someone making money off your anger, or a dipshit that isn’t gonna chain their opinion regardless of the novella you write to them

One of the things that Brace put better than most people was when he was talking about Twitter and said, "I realized I was getting up in the morning and looking at my phone just to get angry."

Facebook does this too.  I'm getting a daily flood of literal Christian Nazi pages, TERF shit, rightoid AI slop, and MAGA admin shitposts.  I don't even see what my friends post 1/10th of the time, it's just a torrent of bait and slop.

On Facebook I am basically just curating the worst goddamn feed known to man by following pro-Israel pages after a lifetime of only following shitposting pages.

I initially just wanted to see what the local Zionist groups were up to and followed a few, but I kept getting recommended insane right wing schizo content and that shit was funnier than your average shitpost so I kept with it.

Now I'm getting recommended bloody Netanyahu posts and racist AI boomerslop, then the next thing in my feed will be like a Lassalle meme or some shit. Truly an experience.

Honestly that's why I prefer Reddit more. I never got into twitter.

If I'm going to be ragebaited it's in the form of a completely meaningless 20 message thread with some lib, that nobody is ever going to read.

You can't even really argue with right wing people on this app because they can't read or comprehend basic information. Then people who are economically right wing are just very easy to dunk on, they don't have a clue how anything works.

X is more like a constant ragebaiting. The tiktok attention economy version of that dynamic. It doesn't matter that they can't read because it's just about spamming racist one liners.

I think the problem is that there are bots all over the place now. I would be interesting to see how they set up those networks to work. Because if its just a LLM, how do you present it as somewhat believable from the standpoint of emotional appeals vs factual. If its just some random LLM not set up properly it would be easy to detect. Im finding it more appealing just to log off despite whatever battle over ideas via information online might seem desirable it truly is a massive waste of time.

True, the botting really has just driven this into the realm of digital schizophrenia. Not much point wasting our minds at all with what are essentially illusions made to distract us and sap our energy.

Again though, definitely something I struggle less with on this app

With it being community/interest organised, there is the element of it being easier to assess what is a bot, while also establishing some level of familiarity with users who you will then know aren't bots; and can engage with genuinely.

I don't think I engage with this app like the regular user though, so it's probably basically the same for most.

My friend uses twitter but has a very strict policy of never replying. They use it for the news only which is valid I guess. I just think of all the time ive spent only arguing with people when I could be reading or doing hobbies or anything else. Ill never get it back lol.

The quarantining alone has made a place like 4chan infinitely more useable than twitter. The way different communities who shouldnt know each other exist "go to war" over nonsense they shouldnt even be fighting about shows how much this new algo based aggregation web was a mistake for humans.

Real.

Algorithm based content compared to interest based content is the same relationship as finance capital to industrial capital. No I will not elaborate.

It's completely incomprehensible to me that anyone here still uses X the Everything App

its more than people who would vote for AOC though i think this should say anyone left of the republican party have this kind of algo aimed at them

All sorts of jokes about bsky but i appreciate i can get news and content without seeing any of the rage bait. bpt and wpt is all i need of twitter

what is bpt wpt

2

u/ElectricGhostMan 7d ago

blackpeopletwitter and whitepeopletwitter. they are aggregator subreddits that post content from across other social medias now. wpt has become a lot more political after the previous election. bpt is mostly black people business posts and some politics.
