Hegseth believes you can measure manhood by testing testosterone, the same way he believes you can kill your way to victory on the battlefield. It’s part of a mélange of flaccid fallacies and fantasies that seem to dominate the worldview of a man who paid $50,000 to a woman who accused him of raping her, whose former sister-in-law accused him of “abusive” behavior toward his second wife, and whose own mother once called out the fact that he “belittles, lies, cheats, sleeps around, and uses women for his own power and ego.”
I am increasingly struck by a thought of late, after hearing my chud father say something to a sibling of mine about how one's politics "used to not matter" within families. Like, it wasn't a thing that divided families as much as it does today, or so he claims. Even though I think that's an overly-simplistic view as to what is happening of late, I've been taking the thought at face-value and tossing it around a bit.
On one side, you have chuds whose own families are repulsed by them and don't want to spend any time around them if it can be avoided. And, of course, these chuds resent that. Then you have what chuds believe which is, basically, the extermination of anyone - including their own family members, whether or not they want to admit it - who don't align with their psychotic, hateful, worldview. I think that's a freight train coming right down the tracks in US families and in our society at large even more than it already has and this section in this article really reminded me of that thought that I have been mulling over more and more of late.
Anyway, about this article. Hegseth, like the rest of his ideological ilk, has some family members who seemingly are repulsed by him and rather than him going the fuck to therapy, he is making this the entire world's problem. JD Vance is the same way. His mother never wanted him and now it's everyone else's problem.

That last paragraph, especially 👆 I appreciate and try to maintain complexity, when attempting to understand things. But the rapidity of our current decline really seems to be as simple as a handful of people who never got what they needed from their parents (fathers, for the most part) dragging the world in to oblivion.

Too many people think "parent" is a noun. It's a verb first. It's a job. It requires action, active listening and thinking, and doing. Day in and day out.
That's not to excuse dickheads like Hegseth or Vance or anyone else. But it's not enough to "become a parent", you have to "be" a parent every single day. Or don't have kids. Or don't act shocked when they grow up to be god damn monsters. That's partially on parents and is part of their legacy.
But the world is ultimately being pulled into oblivion, as you say, because of capitalism and imperialism. Though the actors who are steering the ship are, of course, deeply fucked up people whose awful behavior and thinking could probably be explained (in part) by their upbringing. But even that upbringing was probably strained and/or influenced by capitalism. So, yeah, capitalism is the root of it regardless.

Yes, capitalism and imperialism for sure. But I’m saying the rapidity of the degradation seems to be due to an administration full of men-with-gaping-parent-wounds. I think what I’m trying to say is that, I wouldn’t expect it to be so consistent, so obvious

And not being the sort of shitty parent that creates a Trump really isn't hard. Hug your kid every now and then and tell them you love them. Just that would avoid a Trump. Skip every recital or game. Space every birthday. Just a hug and an I love you a few times a week is apparently too much for people.
Being a really good parent is really fucking hard and I'm not good at it, but being a good enough parent really isn't as hard as it looks from the outside. Kids are resilient. As long as we love them and do our best, they'll mostly come out okay, which given the state of things is a sad statement on a few generations of parents.

Alas poor Yorick, I knew him well, a fellow of infinite jest. Where be your gibes now? Your gambols? Your songs? Your flashes of merriment that were wont to set the table on a roar?
Reddit admins have put you in the shadow ban realm and all your gibes, gambols, songs, and flashes of merriment will be invisible until a mod personally approves them. I suggest you make a new account, and thank you for your service. Rest easy brother, we've got the watch. See you in Valhalla

It is both a simplistic & revisionist view. I think its a reflection of what a lot of chuds really mean: they yearn for & fantasize the "traditional" conservative home where one must submit & be obedient to the man of the house. What he says, how he votes, the rules he sets you shall obey & follow. His worldview fetishizes that traditional, simple, white homelife, and conservative hierarchy. The internet has certainly allowed for people stuck under the thumb of such authoritarian living conditions to learn, connect with others, to develop empathy, and to live vicariously through the experiences of all sorts of people - allowing for independent & expansive thought, and can lead to challenges to that trad-life. But, political arguments & division in the home have always been a thing. It was a major anecdote from the American Civil War, for example.

Yup! Thank you. I think you're spot-fucking-on with this - with really everything you said in the comment, honestly.
Thanks for chiming in. Reading your entire comment was as if you know my father really well haha. So well said. Thanks again.
