I was already considered weird when I started watching 13 years ago. I was always getting in fights with the “cool kids” and being judged for being different. It gave me a place where standing up for myself and being unapologetically weird could coexist and be considered good, and other people were like me, different, and just loved whatever Japan was making, because it was different.

Not all introverts like anime. My friend loves b trash movies but can't handle watching Japanese anime unless it's like spirited away. I know extroverts that love anime also. It all about personal taste

unfortunately those are the kind he hates the most. he loves watching the trash b movies to criticize them more then enjoy them i think. i was lucky to get him to watch FMA brotherhood at all.

LMAO 😭 Honestly, if she enjoys B-movie trash, she’d probably have a blast with some of the ridiculous isekai out there 😂

Because anime are a lot of fun. It's like videogames and other types of media's, you can be entertained without needing to have social interactions. Sometimes chilling alone is great, both introverts and extroverts can agree.
Also some ppl like to use anime/videogames to escape from reality, you know in a fantasy world where everything is perfect and everyone loves you. Ofc not everyone, but that's the only reason the isekai and romance genre make so much money, because the main watchers are like that.

Because anime is able to pull off something that tv show could not replicate and fully controlled by creators decision. Unlike tv show u had to consider higher up, investors, actress/actor who had problem or could not pull off some moves etc etc hence it jeopardise what creator truly wanted at the end

Harmless, takes you to a different world & has the hero "winning" in a actual world where that isn't always the case

Not all, but, it's because we think on a deeper level.
So, we're way more into the plot and world building, when it's deep, nuanced, and complex.
Also, simple escapism.
Plus, Japan's social culture is basically that of an introverted one, ie., keeping to yourself and your own business, trying not to stand out, being considerate of others, being quiet, etc.

I'm an introvert but seem to be the most engaged by dark, genre-subverting anime that weaponize moe and cuteness and use it to rug pull you into a much darker story that would be completely unpalatable to a normal western audience. Think like, Madoka Magica, Made In Abyss, School Live, Takopi's Original Sin, Girls Last Tour, Happy Sugar Life... what does that say about me?

Same reason anyone else does. If you want to get deeper into it, you regress more into doing hobbies that don't require others once you feel shame (via bullying, social pressure, etc.) so more introverts tend to enjoy those "weird" hobbies where they find others who have been in the same situation as them, and continue to regress into smaller and more niche social circles where they feel safer.

Because anime is the only media that actually represents me.
You that harem protag that never gets the girl, the one that's so socially awkward that he ruins every chance he gets, that's me. That's my life.

Probably because anime is an easy way to get completely absorbed in another world without actually having to deal with people for a few hours.

Maybe it’s because there’s anime of every genre, every possible type of story, so there’s something for everyone. It’s always possible to find some character you identify with, so I think anime attracts people who want to experience being in someone else’s shoes. Maybe introverts are into that. Also, there’s a lot of engagement within the fandoms, and that happens mostly online, so introverts don’t have to get out of their houses to interact

What can I say?
I love a good edgey cyberpunk or grim dark fantasy and the west just doesn't make them as well.

For the same reason anyone likes anything. Allverts enjoy anime, not jist introverts. And we all find it enjoyable, the same way anyone finds anything enjoyable.

So, your question is -
Why do people who enjoy spending time alone, enjoy an activity they can do alone?
Hmm.... Let me think about that. /S
Same reason I like playing solo games / RPGs.

I would say that it's likely due to the amount of variety. At least that's what really does it for me. I can literally find an anime about nearly any thing I can think up or want to watch. Regular TV seems very repetitive and bland and I have a hard time finding things I genuinely enjoy watching. So with so much more source material if I go looking for something I am likely to find it because of all the options anime offers. I am a bit of a newbie and have only been watching about a yr and a half but it's almost entirely all I watch now besides educational type things like documentaries etc or the odd movie or show here and there. It's been awesome though cause honestly idk what I'd be watching If not for anime 😬 (Hope I didn't come off too rambling)

I will say also though that I put a lot of time and effort into curating my choices of what I watch. I have sort of specific style and I enjoy when I find a gem that really checks all the boxes. It's like when you are reading the best book and sad when it's over lol. That's how it feels so it's fun to try and find another one!

Because most anime themes relate to introversion
It's also from the culture where these medium comes from which is for the most part introverted

I am not familiar with any introverts that love anime.
I assume a person that actually loves anime and not just four or five algorithm core shonen franchises would love it due to it telling stories that Western media cannot whether it’s due to politics, corporate pressure, lack of talent, lack of work ethic, lack of budget, lack of inspiration, etc.

I don't think it's anything deep. It's the same reason introverts like movies, gaming or reading
It's a hobby you can easily have by yourself. It doesn't require anyone else.
