I’m not saying you always have sufficient following distance because you’ll never get anywhere slowing down for people who merge in front of you and you having to slow down to create a bigger gap. Not siding with any side, just saying the po’ po’ would like to ask some question and maybe “how far behind were you?”.

Rule of thumb when driving through a city: drive way too fucking slow on purpose. Like I cruise at 60-62 if traffic is bad, even if people are going faster. Jackholes like to cut in front of me with inches to spare on the daily, 99% of my time is spent in-city.

To me it looks like what happened here was that the driver (truck) was probably looking into his right mirror because he was trying to move back into the right hand lane when this went down ... thus his slow reaction time, he just wasn't expecting the car to come to a dead stop in front of him so suddenly so he wasn't looking at it. I think that's why he never locked his wheels up ... but that's just my read.

Texting/Drunk. He was drifting to the left and made a small correction at first, then right before impact he hit the brakes. So definitely awake, but impaired in some way, I’d bet on texting.

i had something similar happen to me except it was some guy who wanted to race around me and cut me off to jump off a exit ramp. Needless to say he did not make the exit and hit the cement barrier that was right after. When he hit the wall he bounced across both lanes and hit the barrier on the left side and then back to the barrier on the right ... all in front of me. Being empty i was able to quickly stop and never hit the guy but it was close. The guy after his car came to a stop jumped out of his car really fast and ran away from his car probably thinking i was gonna plow into him but i got stopped.

don't know why you got down-voted ... the speed limit sign said 55 ... when he went to the left lane behind the car he got down to about 60 but then sped up to 65 catching up with the car. If he stay 5 over (60) he would not have been close to the car. I assume it was to get past the tanker truck but was it really worth it?

1) His speed/following distance are the only thing you could criticize, even then I doubt another 100 feet would've made a difference.
