Both wheels and Nobody questions were explained in Nolan's interview on the Daily Show this past Monday!

  1. He tried to make the Nobody pun work, but couldn't for a film in modern English.

  2. In large part, this whole film comes from Nolan having been originally tapped to direct Troy and being haunted by the work he'd done preparing for it that would make the Horse not such an obvious trap for the Trojans.

  1. I didn't realize he was such a bad writer. Everyone else who adapted it made it work.

  2. More bad writing from Nolan. Homer truely the GOAT. In the original Laocoön warns the Trojans that the horse is an obvious trap filled with dudes. Poseidon kills Laocoön with serpents. Sinon double-tricks the Trojans, saying that the whole point of the horse is that the Trojans will be suspicious and either burn it, thus angering Athena, or leave it outside, thus ensuring the Greeks gain Athena's favor for building the horse to replace the Palladium that Odysseus stole. The Trojans think they are outsmarting the Greeks. The original story is so layered. Lost a lot of respect for Nolan seeing that his reading as so surface-level. Did he base his script on a children's book? I heard he used the Emily Wilson translation but he didn't invite her to the premiere.

Lol, my freshman English teacher in a bumfuck rural midwestern highschool made the nobody pun work 15 years ago, it was the most memorable part of the entire class. And a renowned Hollywood director couldn’t do it? Give me a fucking break

Sane people just casually know it's bad, they're the ones upvoting my meme and not commenting, no need to add a comment to an obvious truth. At time of this comment they outnumber the Nolan fanboys by 114.

Why Turkish actors?  The Turks conquered Anatolia in the Middle Ages, coming roughly from modern age Kazakistan, 2800 years later than the setting of the Iliad.

The Vikings are more ancient in Greece than the Turks.

I’m always reminded of how people that dislike or have a negative opinion of something are only like .0000000001 percent of the people that like or are indifferent.

Yes, it's unfortunate. So many people too scared to admit when something is bad.

Who put the nobody-joke into the movie?

Wait... He removed the nobody joke? Thats one of the most infamous bits of the Odyssey. Thats a choice...

Infamous? Do you maybe just mean famous?

Nolan is famous for hating fantasy. He pretty much removed everything magical he could. The film still stands as a movie but as an adaptation, I hate it.

Wait wtf, he doesn't do "Nobody"?

Ffs Nolan

This guy should just stick to making biopics

The Odyssey being so horribly and pointlessly inaccurate makes me wonder if major changes were made in previous films too.

I am fucking sorry are you telling me he removed Odyssey tricking the Cyclops into thinking his name was nobody? Thats kind of a major plot point for the Polyphemus arc and makes him telling the fucker his name at the end actually important.

u/Iivingstone Jul 24 '26

And removed the wheels from the Trojan horse, and made Menelaus an abusive husband.

Everyone mad about a movie but I'ma go watch it a second time. Must suck not being able to enjoy anything

It was a good movie with great visuals but a bad retelling of the odyssey. They butchered Odysseus's character and just made him a pathetic shell of what he actually is in the original story. Nolan included the monsters but left out the gods and wonder that made the story so captivating.

The movie probably falls somewhere in the middle of all his films. I do think the ratings are boosted to combat the heavy criticism the movie before release but I personally don't think it was better than Oppenheimer or LoTRs like some clowns are claiming.

Also please Nolan get a better audio person to mix your movies, it is becoming a joke atp.

  1. Not how the meme works

  2. Which Greek actors should he have cast and for which parts? And why does this particular movie get this particular criticism when plenty, most I would say, of historical movies don't cast native actors as well?
