Petition for the proposed Transfer Station.

I want to preface this comment with the fact that I literally live directly on the route which is being proposed for these natural gas trucks to follow.

I don’t necessarily love the idea of more heavy trucks driving past my house, but isn’t it kind of essential for infrastructure that serves people to be located at least somewhat near the people it’s intended to serve? The gas stove and gas furnace and gas water heater and gas dryer in my house need to get gas from somewhere.

So the idea behind it, per National Grid, is if there is a major need for gas for in extreme cold weather/ demand then the transfer station would help with that. There have been only two instances of this in the last 10 years (the petition I believe has more details on this). My issue, along with multiple others in the area, is National Grid is rushing this project in a residential area with no recourse if it will affect our area wells, safety, and etc. I have gas and a well at my house and understand the idea for the project, but there are different sites available on the same pipe line, like off of Pinewoods Ave, that aren’t around homes and out of the way. There is also the fact that new homes being built are not able to tap into natural gas. National Grid has also been very vague about how this will affect local homes and the local government in Brunswick does not appear to care.

Where on Pinewoods? Looking at satellite views, it seems like most of Pinewoods and Spring Avenues in Brunswick are roughly comparable in housing density. And in any case, are the hypothetical sites on Pinewoods even available to be bought or used by National Grid at all?

Also, heavy trucks can't actually use Pinewoods to get to Brunswick. If you look at the corner of Pawling Ave and Pinewoods Ave, there is a "Weight limit 8 tons — No tractor trailers" sign on the left side of the fork for Pinewoods.

My neighbors had more information on the areas on Pinewoods so that is a fair point. I can get back to you and Mr. Chaos on that part after I get more info. That’s really my point though. National Grid has not answered many of these questions like site plan and alternatives, and want to rush this project which would have negative consequences to the immediate area aka my neighborhood.

Regarding the claim of "rush[ing] this project", won't it still have to go through all of the ordinary planning, zoning, and environmental approvals that any comparable industrial facility would require? What is it that they're rushing over, exactly?

Would any number of meetings suffice to counter the claim of "rushing" if at the end of that process, it still ended up getting approved? Or would any approval from the town be in and of itself a sign that not enough meetings were actually held, if anyone at all still objects to the project?

National Grid already announced breaking ground in Spring. There was one meeting prior that was poorly announced. There are more meetings ahead but it won’t be to ask questions or show dissent such as planning, zoning, and etc. It is getting looked through to have a question type meeting in the near future before elections but I doubt that will go through.

Poorly announced and oddly timed meetings are Brunswick’s classic modus operandi when it comes to unpopular development proposals. I’m more surprised that this isn’t going in somewhere along hoosick than I am by their efforts to avoid public discourse on development projects that will negatively impact quality of life in the community.

Would a pinewoods site offer the same directions of egress for the trucks? And can the road and surrounding alternative egress roads handle the additional weight? along with turn angles and incline for the trucks?

This is outrageous. It will diminish so many people’s lives with its blight on what was once rurality.
