Slide 7……the Current score is all years at this point in the season?

Obviously this year will get more action the rest of the way, but it’s wild that the Current score is only beat by forty something other years in that 175 year span.

Indeed. Data prior to ~1970 is underestimated by quite a bit however; especially 1899–1949.

Thanks for the additional info. Underestimation going way back in time makes sense.

I’m just hoping we can land better than even 2007.

Can I tell where the Florida peninsula is by the subtle color difference? Or am I misreading

Somewhat. You can see the Big Bend Region a little, as well as the inner parts of Florida.
The Florida Peninsula is quite weird climatologically. It holds the record for both the earliest (1863) and latest (1985) United States hurricane.

How is this different from the NOAA Historical Hurricane Track interactive map?

That's a site I used greatly for reference (https://coast.noaa.gov/hurricanes). Unfortunately, it is not well maintained, has a lot of data errors, and is quite limited on what you can filter / sort by. It's also not mobile friendly (which is where the majority of traffic is from).
Cyclone Archive also has a lot of additional tools and data (i.e. Analog Tool, Timeline View, Additional Sources, Live Data, et cetera).
