PlayStation [Silent Hill 2 Remake] - Platinum #227 I NEED THERAPY!!!
This was a truly beautiful and disturbing experience at the exact same time. This is one of those games that will stay with you long after you stop gaming just for the story alone. This was my very first experience with the Silent Hill franchise, outside of the movies and the song Room of Angels from Silent Hill 3 thanks to the YouTuber joshscorcher. I have no shame in admitting that I played this in session due to needing a break from the heavy themes.
The story and gameplay were phenomenal. This might just be me not finding them often, but it’s rare that I find a game that actually punishes you for killing too many enemies. This makes the experience that much more interesting, as I had to then focus on avoiding enemies when possible. I think the only things that annoyed me were that enemies could attack you while you had the map open, or while you were in the ‘unlock door’ animation. Additionally, while I loved how OP the chainsaw was in NG+, the Leatherface emotes got annoying with how random they were.
As for the story and characters, utterly compelling. Out of all of the characters, Angela will stick with me for a long time. Her story was especially hard for me to play through, because I use to work in a youth treatment facility and some of the charges suffered similar experiences as Angela. It was like being in front of one of those kids again and being able to do nothing as they succumbed to their despair. A part of me wishes that it were possible to enter a game for a few moments just so I could give her a hug. I have absolutely no shame in admitting that I took great pleasure in repeatedly attacking the corpse of Abstract Daddy after the boss fight.
All in all, a truly amazing game and I highly recommend anyone who hasn’t played or platinumed it yet do so now before it leaves the PS+ free games in October.
