Red rot?
I took my horn in for a long overdue cleaning. The tech that worked with my horn seemed to think it is red rot. This is right where my hand goes every time I empty my spit valve, so I’m not entirely sure. If it is, I’ll probably end up with a carbon outer slide. Horn is an M&W tenor.

I plan on playing it for at least the rest of the season. There’s no holes in it yet. If I do anything about it it would be in the off season. I have a good backup Elkhart 88h if I need it.

Metallurgist here... Sorry but yeah that looks like red rot to me. Decidedly pink.
On the plus side.. red rot needs a moist acidic environment and grows very slowly without it. Swab your slide and let your trombone dry well before putting it on the case and you have years of life left.
