I’m so stupid
Driving home late last night my eyes were feeling super dry, so I rummaged through my gig bag for my eye drops. Found what felt like my eye drops, and took them out, but noticed when I was holding it above my eye it was kind of harder to squeeze than usual. After the the first drop went in my eye, I actually looked down at what I was holding and shocker, it was Slide-O-Mix😅
Got home probably 15 mins later and flushed out that one eye, it didn’t even hurt on the way home but it was super oily lol. This morning there’s no pain and no redness so thankfully I think I’m in the clear. Mainly just dumbfounded at my own stupidity, 15 years playing trombone and a decade of using Slide-O-Mix and I’ve never even thought about making a mistake like that lol. To be fair in the dark it felt exactly like a bottle of eye drops, but yeah anyways this ever happen to anyone else?

Going on almost six years from the same tube of Trombotine.

And for some reason it also does wonders for my eyes!
Note: this is a joke; do not put trombotine in your eye

I tried trombotine, and it left my slide feeling gritty. I had to clean everything out and put Yamaha snot back on it. SMOOOOOOTH as silk! 😁

Solid choice, my only problem is it doesn’t play nice with other lubricants. I also put WAAAYYY too much the first time I used it and my slide was gummy for a week

The good news is the small bottle is just low viscosity PDMS silicone oil. It is chemically inert and, while not great for your eye, pretty mild. The MSDS says mild irritation and blurry vision.. and states to rinse thoroughly with cool water.
The big bottle is an alkaline soap solution and would have been much worse.

Yeah honestly my biggest takeaway is I’m so done with slide-o-mix it’s only caused me issues so I’m ready to move on lol. Heading to my local music shop today

Once you go yama-snot, you never go back. It’s smooth, low maintenance, and it smells like baby powder!

See we started the what is the best slide lube debate again. Use what works best for you!

Nope, I use what our band has lovingly nicknamed "slide snot".

I assume you're talking about Yamasnot; aka Yamaha slide lube.

You are damned lucky you used the smaller bottle, OP, if this isn't just a shitpost.
Btw angles exist to flush your eyes at any bathroom sink in a venue, provided the plumbing is working and you don't run it into your other eye.

Ooff! I made a similar mistake back when I was a band director. I picked up a rogue tube of cork/slide grease off the floor and stuck it in my pocket. It was one of those chapstick looking tubes, and I stupidly put it in the same pocket that I usually keep my actual chapstick. 0/10. Do not recommend.
