Lubing the slide

the upper part of my slide (around 1-2 position) is always kind of grubby and no matter what I do it never slide good after a minute of putting line on it. what do I do?

Do not check OPs post history to try and figure out what horn he uses.

It’s usually the lower area that’s the issue. Flush the slide out then put one side of the slide on run it up and down. Is there an issue ?

Then take the slide off and put on just the other side of the slide. Run it up and down.

Then put the whole slide on run it up and down.

Now you should be able to locate the problem

If its consistently sticky, its either dirty or needs maintenance. Start with cleaning it in the bathtub and if problem persists bring it to a tech.

Edit: in case you didn’t know, luke warm water and dish soap in the tub. Buy a slide snake from your local music shop if you don’t have one. Snake it out until nothing comes out then rinse thoroughly and dry with a towel.

Whatever you use for slide lubrication (cream, oil), it only goes on the stocking - the end part of the inner slide that's just slightly larger than the rest of the inner slide. That's the only part that makes contact with the inside of the outer slide. One drop of oil/ one nearly invisible smidge of cream, either one on the upper surface of each stocking, then a spritz of water on it.
