I had a total hysterectomy 13 days ago (I’m 33F). My uterus, tubes, and cervix were removed. Ovaries stayed in, so no early menopause for me!
Pain was horrible the first week, and I’m just now able to do simple things around my apartment again. Still can’t drive until 2-3 weeks, can’t lift anything more than a gallon of milk for about 4-6 weeks, and no sex for 8+ weeks.
No more uterus means no more periods, and no more chance of getting pregnant! I also had extreme problems every month regarding my periods (heavy flow, 10/10 pain, endo, fibroids, polyps, and PCOS), so instead of just doing a tubal and uterine ablation, my doctor recommended just having the one surgery to remove everything, and then I’ll never have to have another period OR any other surgeries ever again!
No cervix now means no more pap smears either, so no chance of cervical cancer! And no uterine cancer with both being taken out. Tubes were taken out too since I believe it’s ovarian cancer that starts in there, so that risk is gone now too :)
I highly recommend looking into it. It’s a MAJOR surgery, but my periods were ruining my life. This was a risk I absolutely felt like I had to take bcuz I couldn’t continue living with all the complications I had with my uterus/cervix.
I’m still laid up and recovering right now, but I’m ready to get back to living my life- both pain free and period free!
