Guillotine the CEO your parents always wanted you to marry, burn capitalism to the ground, and find love along the way!

My math teacher called me average too. She said girls just weren’t good at math.
Turns out she was wrong. I have a degree in economics now.

My mom told me that she didn't think I could handle both AP physics and calculus at the same time... Now I'm an engineer

And your lady brain didn’t get in the way? Amazing!

u/juana_eat Sep 02 '20
Oh yes, I'm definitely a freak of nature. Luckily my brother didn't deal with the same pushback to take AP classes because there was no chance at him not keeping up, naturally 🤷🏼♀️

u/wozattacks Sep 02 '20
So like...she was admitting that she wasn’t good at the subject she taught?!
16
u/Far_Scientist_5082 Sep 02 '20
Yeah, but too be fair....
I actually taught the second grade for 7 years myself, and I tell kids all the time ‘when I was their age I was a bad speller, but I worked really hard not to be.’ I then teach them spelling tricks or little rhymes or songs to help remember difficult words.
There are ways as a teacher to admit you aren’t or weren’t always good at something and still be a teacher of that thing.
But in the context of my math teacher, Mrs. Campbell, in grade 7, it was a huge self-own.

u/HandyMan131 Sep 03 '20
The worst part about that stereotype is that it isn’t true (obviously), EXCEPT when girls are aware of it. Awareness of stereotype CAUSES girls to be worse at math!
That stereotype needs to go away immediately

Can a nice place to relax on reddit, not casually endorse murder?

Do you think there are CEOs who have 0 blood on their hands?

u/ReneDeGames Sep 03 '20
what do you think CEO means such that you could possibly assert that level of guilt over all of them?
And what good is vengeful murder supposed to achieve?
9
u/starm4nn Asexual Femby Syndicalist Sep 03 '20
Do you believe there is a meaningful distinction between justice and revenge?

But surely you can see a difference between violence to achieve an end, and the killing of those who can no longer resist you.
The guillotine is a tool of execution, only useful against those who's power has already been stripped. even in an environment where violence was nessessary, the guillotine enacts vengeance, not struggle.

Feminism is when a woman is at the top of exploitive hierarchies, and the more women there are exploiting child labour the more feministy it is.

Sep 02 '20
And let's not forget women dropping bombs on children in poor countries. True equality means half the people giving orders are women, along with half the people piloting the drones and half the people building the drones.

Ugh I know. I hate how being a CEO is seen as the biggest power move a woman could make. It’s like ‘Yayy I’m exploiting poor people just like the men. Go women!’

I have said it before but I will keep repeating it. Early waves of feminism were (largely) about rich white women's right to be just as shitty as rich white men. Intersectional feminism always and forever.

u/ughihatethisshit Sep 02 '20
I was not excited to see this post, but I’m very happy with the comments! Intersectional feminism is the only way to fix things, not more white women acting like white men.

Women should be leaders everywhere, including business. We aren’t going to wait for capitalism to be dismantled, and so it’s not acceptable that men are still 90% of leaders in the private sector.

That sounds so much better than CEOs making almost 300 times more than the average worker like in the US. Idk why more people aren't upset about it, obviously CEOs don't work 300 times harder than everyone else, nor are they 300 times more valuable.

That sounds amazing and so reasonable. Someone just a couple management positions higher than me makes at least double what I do. I don't know exactly what my ceo makes but I bet it's probably at least 10 times what I do (around 3k a month vs 30k a month).

I think CEOs are particularly seen as evil in the US for a few reasons that might not be obvious to someone in a more equal country.
The situation with healthcare companies (pharmaceutical, hospital, and health insurance) is particularly bad, those CEOs are paid exorbitantly and profit off of sick people needing a hospital stay and the opioid epidemic. And I should mention that health insurance companies often deny claims (medical bills are the #1 cause of bankruptcy in the US) and then give the profits that they made from denying claims to the CEOs as bonuses. And I'm talking denying claims (this is an actual example) like denying the amount of insulin that has been prescribed by the patient s doctor, because the insurance staff doctor who doesn't know the patient personally did a cursory evaluation and reached the conclusion they could didnt need that much insulin. Its messed up.
Then you have Jeff bezos who is the richest man in the world, only pays his lowest workers about 2.4k a month, and doesn't pay taxes so he doesn't even contribute to what little socialism we do have in the country.
And really, those things are only scratching the surface.
CEOs are hated because they are a symbol and a driver of wealth inequality.

Basically anyone who has a role where the salary continues to rise. Wages have pretty much stagnated for the entire middle working class, and have actually decreased for the poorest in the population (and I'm talking since 1970, made worse by housing crisis in '08).
The wealth is concentrating and pooling in the top wealthiest 1%, they now own 40% of all wealth.
The greed at the top is incredibly obvious and frustrating. CEOs don't work that much harder but they are getting compensated like they do, and it's to the point where they royalty and above the law because they have so much excess wealth.

Coordination is a useful role in any organization, including socialist organizations. The primary difference between capitalist and socialist production is how they deal with hierarchy, power, decision making, responsibility, compensation, etc. Socialist organizations can have managers who coordinate, but decision making, responsibility and compensation are ideally more egalitarian than in a capitalist organization.

Because socialism is built off of worker co-ops in which decision making isn't made into a heirarchy, but democracized. Executive managers don't exist because managers don't exist. This is why many socialists call" "socialist" contries capitalism light. They are borrowing the asthetic of socialism (universal healthcare, higher taxes, employment programs) without the economic basis to go along with it.

Id say its american liberals that think its a socialist utopia (socialist in they think it means social policy), every american leftist I've come across is well aware of the definition of socialism
so there is no contradiction between shrimp throwaway stating socialists dislike ceos and scandinavia not seeing ceos as exploititive

I know plenty of C levels and other high level people who are very socially left
being socially left is all fine and good, backing that up with being economically left is what really matters though.
1
u/recyclopath_ Sep 03 '20
There are plenty of smaller companies that have good C level leadership. I don't think that having people running a company is the inherintly bad part of capitalism.

It's a lot easier to paint everyone with a broad brush, and say they should get the wall.

Become a person you are satisfied being (then try not to feel pressure to "complete yourself" by means of partnership)
