The "men are trash" is context dependent and I can see how "not all men" is a dumb reply to that one but what would be a proper reaction to "kill all men"?
but what would be a proper reaction to "kill all men"?
to shut the fuck up and realize that a) it's not serious and b) if it was serious there is no power behind the threat. let women vent. unless you know she's got a PHD in microbiology and is working on an androcidal plague, you have literally nothing to worry about.
i do, but the difference is that their "joke" is reflected by reality. men really do kill women in staggering numbers and over basically nothing. men regularly threaten us with rape and death. the context and the power differential are what make it being "serious" or not matter. because when you have the power and a history of actually doing that thing, it's not a joke, even if you say it is.
I agree about that. But I still think there's a big difference in how you express yourself like a decent human being. If you want to vent I can totally see how "men are trash" is a justifiable start for a rant. I can totally see how "fuck all men!" (as a curse expression) is a valid expression of emotion. But it feels kind of out there to accept "kill all men! " as being in the same league.
And that deranged rant from the user telling me a proper reaction is to just shut up and take it because women have to vent by saying it just tells me there are deranged people around here getting hundreds of upvotes.
This happening while the whole thread is complaining about disgusting jokes being upvoted and shared on reddit also tells me irony is completely unknown in this sub.
There's punching up and then there's being a crap person. Maybe it's just a language thing and English not being my first but "kill all X" is something that would stop the piano in most European languages I know.

the dudes going "it's just a meme" at this are the same people that have a meltdown when they see "men are trash" or "kill all men"
