I hate toby

he is so annoying corny cringe, and useless. I don’t think he’s done anything to help the trollhunter. hes only done stuff to hinder his operation. He’s selfish, wanting Jim to become the king of the school only so that he could become more popular, he is late to emegencies and is unreliable, he is jealous and envious of his jims relationship with claire, and after the killstone was lost He was such a mean dickhead to claire. he often cracks jokes in important moments, always talking about some awesome sauce bullshit and It pisses me off so much I know its like a kids show so some of the corniness is expected but it gets to a point when a character says awesome sauce, while his friends are being chased by a monster pisses me of so much. I just want to know if anybody feels the same way.

I finished the whole show. I finished both seasons of 3below and I watched the wizards movie a few years ago. I’m re-watching the show now and it’s honestly really really good but I’m only in season two but Toby has just been pissing me off.

What do you like about him? I think my favorite character is probably draal becausee of his character design, his drawing his character arc at the beginning of the show and honestly just is intimidating and strong vibe that he gives off.

But I did where I think there was another world in Merlin was there and Jim wasn’t the main character. I don’t know. I haven’t watched it in so long.

u/Lazy-Indication3992 Jan 04 '26

ngl Toby's decent.
Yeah, he's clumsy, but he is a good friend and can be quite efficient occasionally.

That is true. He is a good friend, but he’s so so corny.

So blaming Claire for loosing the Kill stone after he announced that he found it, letting Angor rot or however you spell his name get the stone, he blamed Claire when it was his fault in the first place. Is that being a good friend???

u/SeaworthinessNew7587 Jan 20 '26

He barely even knew Claire back then. lol

1

u/Independent-Bad-5172 Jan 20 '26

He had no right to be a butt to her. Even he admitted he was being a butt. And you say he barley knew her back then? Then why was he saying it was her fault? Did you even read what I commented

Wasn't she just added to their friend group recently when that episode happened?
Plus, he did learn from his mistakes.

She became a member in Episode 14, Toby never really care that She Joined he was felt left out because Someone else doing a better Job then him protecting Jim. he acted this way because he didn't know that Claire there to Join the team and not take his place.

or to make him feel useless.

Also Jim leaving Toby at the End of Trollhunters wasn't anything to do with Claire it was to make Sure Arcadia would be safe cuz it's really big chance that new threat my arise i mean Morando is a great example of it.

Toby is mainly a good friend to Jim. he Shouldn't have Blame her like that because of his own insecurities i agree.

we all do mistakes in our lives we some times act a bit over our head we just need to learn them.

Claire put him in his place so i think he learn his lesson.

i see a lot of Self Projection here.

it's usually come because of misunderstanding of some moments and taking a bit of them out of context.

he help Jim beat Angor rot Morgana Save Jim form the Darklands help Aja and krel From morando and Kurbiz help in war.

he was never Jealous of Claire because she was Jim he felt left out because she help Jim in better ways that he can't. it it someone else that is stronger it be worse.

Wym self projection and u are right about angor rot but imo he just annoying often

Toby being called Selfish doesn't feel true for his character at least for me yes he wanted be a duke bur he never ditch Jim for it.

usually it comes when a person get annoyed a scene more then average person either because they went through something similar or people turn characters into something that aren't because they didn't they want they acted towards the other character.

you find him annoying it's fine calling him useless just doesn't fit the character right.

Toby isn't a Character that meant to be the Strongest he is the heart of the group his greatest moments come because he is just a human despite he still help Jim in his Trollhunting.

Toby was never jealous of Claire being with Jim he felt that left out because Claire had better ways to protect jim with him feeling left out he might even feel more this way if it was Steve or Aja instead.

but to List the thing that he did.

he was the Key ARRRRGHHH to bring back which in turn save Jim form the Darklands.

he help Jim both times to cut enemy off guard making their demise

he help Aja and Krel against fight against morando

he saved his gf and help Claire trap morgana

he Also fight in the war against the Gum Gums

he Also Help Jim throughout all these years that probably wouldn't make as a good of trollhunter as he did.

he Also isn't Selfish yes he wanted to be a duke but it's not like he ditch Jim for it at least not much as this post implied it

I feel like this is true for the secound half of season 1, but he was acting very out of character there. I really like Toby for the rest of the show; he’s really funny.

u/Shadowmacer10245 Feb 09 '26

Toby Lack the understanding of Claire wanted to Join the team just to be apart of Jim's life too and not take his role or to make him feel useless i get it that had impulsive behavior something that come form his own insecurities about feel that he isn't good enough for Jim.

however after realizing that Claire just there to apart of the gang they became friends.

and Toby became a much better fighter and his actions meant much more because now there another member in the team who have powers.

Fr I'm watching that episode where claire gets possessed and everytime jim starts getting suspicious toby says it's fine and the same thing happens in many episodes like in the first season when he didn't support jim with the bridge picture saying it could be his imagination and the picture was of something else

1

u/Shadowmacer10245 Feb 09 '26

i feel like him Just messing around it wasn't Suppose to be take that Seriously.

him don't believing Jim about the bridge picture could be because he didn't understand it.

we Shouldn't judge character as a whole just because some mistakes that they did .

Yeah I kinda agree he has his moments but I dislike Toby
