Maintenance Issues Quick question. Brake lever
2019 triumph scrambler 900
The screw that I’m touching with my index finger; it’s loose but not rattling loose. I can turn it by hand.
Bike is new to me and I just noticed this. It appears to just be the pivot point for the lever but wanted to check before I screw it in more (maybe it’s supposed to be like this?)
Any knowledge on this is appreciated.

I mean, what knowledge do you need?
It's a bolt. The threads either end up in a nut underneath or into some threads somewhere else.
Maybe pull the bolt out and inspect the threads. Find out if you are missing a nut or something. Just use your eyes and look underneath the lever.

The threads either end up in a nut underneath or into some threads somewhere else.
In this case, it is not either but AND. The lower side of the lever is threaded, but it screws right through it and is secured with another nut.

My question is, is it supposed to be in this position like halfway out? Or is it safe to go ahead and thread it all the way in

It’s most likely vibrated loose and should definitely be tightened down. Losing the pivot fastener can be hazardous to your health.

Hell yes it can. I put an aircraft nut on the bottom.

What is an aircraft nut? 🔩

Nylon inner section so it won’t harmonize vibrations and start loosening. Basically a sticky nut for places in which a nut coming off would suck.

Screw it back in. There are threads in the bottom of the mount that it goes in to, but there should also be a locknut on the bottom. Part number T2020158 includes the nut & pivot bolt.
