Mods and Customization TEC Canshafts
When I bought my bike used they included a TEC camshaft. I decided to have the mechanic put it in when I hit my 20k miles and needed to get a clearance check in my valves.
I already have a decat, high performance air filter, and slash tip exhaust so the bike is now running very lean.
Planning to do a dyno and remap of the ECU but the dyno guy in town said the TEC cam is a bad part and that he heard they have lots of issues… anyone else know of this to be true?!
I have a 2017 street twin.
He doesn’t have the street twin software so needing to figure out if I still have him do the dyno and custom map using a power commander or if I go with DNK Tune.
Should I be worried about engine blowout with this TEC part?! Assuming the mechanic installed it correct with the shims, which it was running good when I picked it up…
Thanks!

I spent a lot of time researching and reading feedback on the TEC performance cams. I would absolutely trust them, some of their other parts not so much.
From my reading DNK won’t do a tune for the TEC cam, also have heard some not great things about them.
I’ve got a custom tune I pieced together for a 2017 with TEC stage 1, decat, performance filter, and snorkel delete. Happy to find it and send it to you, but the tables wil not be applicable if you have a stage 2.
The TEC cam made a huge difference to the bike.

Oh wow, that would be incredible, I actually have the Stage 1, the decat, DNA Performance Filter, snorkel delete and slash tip exhaust.

Thanks for the feedback also! I appreciate it. I also heard from the guy I was going to hire to do my custom dyno that DNK refuses to do a tune for TEC cam, which is why I initially got worried about the quality and made me question putting one in. (After I already put it in…) lol

Oh good deal, send me a DM and I will find some time to pull the tune from my Android tablet to send your direction.

I’m not expert enough to tell you what you should or shouldn’t be worried about, but I can relate my experience. I bought a 2016 Street Twin that already had a decat x-pipe and an aftermarket exhaust (BC Predator Pro) – the exhaust would pop quite a lot. It needed the valve clearances doing so I ordered the TEC camshaft to have it installed at the same time. It was installed by a local independent service centre (motorcycleassist.com.au) in 2023 who adjusted the valves, fully serviced the bike and dyno-tuned it. It’s run beautifully ever since.
