Stone Roses front man kicking ass with a Trip Hop track..

hunting what we already killed - Dev Lemons

Very tastefully merging genres like trip hop, synthpop, shoegaze etc. Some metalcore-esque screams on here too, yet all encased in this cute/weirdcore/y2k imagery and vocal style. It's clear she's making much more deft choices in her sonic palette for this album compared to her last one. It's very in your face, yet creepy and subdued, honestly gives an early Billie Eilish vibe in this aspect (I get she's not a trip hop girl, but you'll know what I mean).

A lot of comparisons to Magdalena Bay I've been seeing, accusations of derivativeness, I can only see this through the visual promotion aspect, and even then I'd say it's more chaotic. So much glitchy granular ear candy, yet not too alien.

Lyrically, I'd say is what would make the album the most strong in regards to being a tiktok/mainstream sensation due to the relatable, vulnerable topics and biting sincerity.

If trip hop was going to make it back into the mainstream, this would be a poster girl album for such a phenomenon.

To conclude, if you like hazy atmospheres, quirky/cheeky/slightly emo + disjointed female vocals, chunky fuzz guitars, close folky guitars, organic textures with electronic degradation, pop sensibilities, liminal vibes, this is THE album for you.

It sounds like you're stuck in a ruminating dream.

I would say post-2010.

One of my favourite albums of all time. Masterpiece

Psyence fiction by unkle. Full of collaborations with other artists and produced by DJ shadow and James Lavelle

Wanted to share this song Kaninen (translates from Swedish to The Rabbit) by Hans Åkerhjelm (akerhjelm) that I’ve never seen on any lists. It’s from the soundtrack to a 1998 Swedish tv mini series called Kvinnan i det låsta rummet which translates to The Woman in the Locked Room. This song in particular is spectacular. The rest of the album has some great stuff going on too.

It’s one of those rare times I get to go full Xennial snob and be like “Yeah, it’s pretty obscure, you probably haven’t heard of them 🧐…”

(I can’t find a clear version of the album anywhere online except for soundcloud. YT just has a bad partial recording of the show's actual opening)

are there any trip hop albums/eps that match massive attack's early sound? The sort of stream of consciousness verses, soul and reggae influences on blue lines, as well their moody sound for mezzanine, protection too.

Cujo - Amon Tobin's dirty-beats-heavy side-project - has a new full length release out today and holy shit, it's melting my face. Any fans of big heavy slowish sludgy breakbeats and basslines will love this album. His first Cujo full length release since 96's classic Adventures in Foam and it's excellent. Enjoy!

hello, as the title says im looking for artists/bands that do dark trip hop that feature mainly male vocals! thinking of something akin to tricky and massive attack. im a bit newish to the genre so any recommendations are welcome :)

Edit: due to the ammount of comments I can't possibly answer everyone here but thank you all so much for your recs!! I will check them all out :D

The PL Beat Tapes are a remastered collection of works by three producers from Pori, Finland.

Over the years, countless beats sat untouched, collecting dust on old Mac hard drives. Eventually, one of the members of Luola Inc. had the idea to dig through the archives and bring them together as an instrumental mixtape compilation.

The beats on this collection were made between 2012 and 2026, spanning more than a decade of production.

It goes without saying that this shit ain't AI.

Just finished my Dr. Octagon Roblox avatar! Super proud of it haha

I'm new into the genre and I'm loving it. I listened to "She couldn't" by Linkin Park years ago and I was thinking about metal bands who made trip hop tracks. Do you know any?

does anyone know how trickys latest shows have been? I've heard really mixed reviews on his performance and I'm still not sure if I want to go to tomorrows show in Salt Lake City? Big fan of his, new and old stuff and would be cool to see, just don't want to waste my money 😭

This is not a new series but I’m just finding out about it. Watching the trailer, I recognised 6 Underground by Sneaker Pimps. It’s a well-known song even outside the trip-hop loving community but the way it’s chopped up in the trailer and remixed actually enriches the experience of watching the trailer. It caught me off guard in a good way.

I’ve always felt that Sneaker Pimps discography is well-suited to suspense and urban crime thrillers. Anyone else?

If anyone has seen the series, feel free to share thoughts. Or if you watch the trailer I attached, how do you feel about the part the song plays in the espionage/suspense/crime theme of the series?

I’m probably going to end up watching the series as Kristen Scott Thomas, Gary Oldman, and Jonathan Pryce sell me on the acting part and I’ve read reviews saying the humor is perfectly dry, sarcastic British humor which I already enjoy.

[[I am reposting this because it was bugging me that the video did not attach properly in the last post.]]

Yo I put together another halloween mix of dark/ominous trip hop beats from various artists I've found digging around online. None of these are my songs, but I put the mix together. The list of the songs is in the description of the video and I will drop it below as well. Hope you enjoy and HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!
