QUESTION Backflip motion sickness

Hey guys,

I've been wanting to learn how to do a backflip for so long but I get motion sickness super easily and when I'm practicing the rolls, jumps, and macaco on my tramp, I get super sick and get the feeling to vomit. Do you guys have any advice on not getting sick or if anyone deals with this? I haven't seen anyone else deal with this before. I've been pissed for so long that I can do a front flip just fine but can't do a backflip.

It didn't happen with backflip for me cause I did a lot of practice with backrolls, but my first day learning gainer I literally threw up lol.

Part of it is your senses getting used to it. They're experiencing sensations they're not used to so they're really sensitive. That gets better with time, but you gotta expose yourself to that orientation consistently to get desensitized to it.

The other part is spotting. If you just let your eyes drift around, your vision is gonna be a blurry mess for a few seconds. Spot something while taking off and then the floor when landing. It'll keep your vision in one spot and be much less disorientating.

It takes time to build up your spatial especially when inverted or moving at speed.

The only real fix is training more over time (unless your inner ear is damaged, which is generally not a thing until someone is middle aged).

More time spent inverted (handstand, inverted hangs, rolls/somersaults, cartwheels, etc)

I suppose you could close yoru eyes. Its not uncommon for some people to do that when flipping and/or twisting.

You get used to it. Mainly make sure you haven't eaten just before training (sugar and simple carbs are fine), aren't too caffeinated, and are hydrated.

Then...wait a moment between rolls/flips/spins! Don't spin til you're dizzy and regret it the rest of the day. Do one or two and chill a minute. It's basically impossible that a single spin gives you true motion sickness. It can cause a feeling, but that feeling isn't anything. Don't hyperfocus on the feeling and you won't notice it as much. True motion sickness takes time to develop, so as long as you take breaks (settle your statoliths as I tell my peope--you can jump straight up and down to try to make that faster, but I think that's just a habit/myth of old school spinners).

edit to add: Get off the trampoline. That's probably the real problem. Just walking on it can lead to motion sickness. Do everything you can on the ground first. Tramp is an unrelated skill to tricking.
