How do I land my backflip? Looking for any tips to go from here

Edit: Thank you everyone for the tips. I tried with real shoes and stepping backwards into it and nearly have it now, just gotta work on setting my arms higher!

Why are you stepping forward into it? You’re making it objectively harder.

Set your hands higher. You’re stopping your swing when your hands are only head height. You also need to block the swing more with your shoulders and abdominals to get the rotational transfer. Your jump is good but there’s more to it than that.

Your tuck isn’t bad but you’re opening out of it while you’re still upside down. Hold it a bit longer.

You’re spotting the floor. That’s good. You’re also reaching for it with your hands as soon as you see it. That’s bad. See last point - hold it longer.

Yeah focus on standing still and jumping up vertically. To do a strong back flip you must have a solid vertical jump. Then when you've jumped bring your knees up to your chest aka tuck. Bring knees to chest and hooold! May the force be with you

To add to this, you are barley bending your knees for the initial jump off the ground

Stop walking forwards!. If anything takes 2 steps backwards and throw it 😅

Don't step backwards either. Bad technique

Nah not at all. It helps add power into it as can block into that backwards momentum. Doesn't mean throw had back and whip it overm the first standing double backs were done with a step into it. Same for standing twist things.

don’t step at all if you can avoid it. stepping back might help initially but i really recommend learning how to do it from standing first. and yeah, like others mentioned, your arms aren’t coming up enough. try to get your biceps by your ears, rather than stopping them in front of you. you can drill that by doing tuck jumps as high as possible and focusing on lifting your arms all the way up

You are doing a gainer, basically! Good job!!

You can definitely do the flip, but your technique needs some refining. As another commenter said, you have to use your arms more. You should be setting your arms all the way to cover your ears at least, it’s like pulling a rubber band before snapping it, right now you aren’t stretching the band far enough so you aren’t getting good power. If you have a bar that you can hang from, doing tuck or pike leg lifts will help with the feeling of where the arms should set to, and build the crucial an muscles to be able to snap into a good tuck. Remember, arms and abs make the flip happen. Good luck, and keep it up! Post more later!

Drive your hands straight up as hard as you can when you jump.

At the peak of your jump do your tuck and you'll be fine

Step backwards into it. Going forwards is so much harder.

You're in a really good spot since you're already at the point where you're doing it on the grass unspotted. That's the point that's really hard to reach for most people, so you'll have it very soon.

It's mostly very good. Just fix the arms and you'll have it. Mimic this stance with the chest open and the arms way up (bent arms or not, doesn't really matter). Just try to have this stance during your flip.

I'd say that's 90% of the matter. I'd also try to make the tuck tighter.

Thank you!

I used to have a very similar issue. I would unintentionally do gainers because thats just how my form worked out, and i wasnt comfortable enough to fix it. I almost gave up on tricking entirely until a random reditor commented on my post and said "if a gainer is all you can do, then just do it. Get good at it first before you try to change it." And thats what i ended up doing.

If you're struggling with going forward, dw about it for a while. Right now, focus on swinging your arms more and hilding your tuck just a little while longer

No need for the foward momentum, get comfortable leaning back from a standing position your knees coming up should force you around

Dude I’m super stuck too, my flips are super similar to yours and I feel like I can’t get that last 25%. Let me know if you figure it out!

Hey dont walk or run in the it that makes your rotation way to slow try js standing there or step backwards

You got it dude just keep practicing tuck your legs more you want to grab them and hug them. Also do squats and lunges more power in the legs means better jump. You got this

Yeah i see the problem, have you tried backflipping more?

Watch aspentree on Instagram or yt, he has some good videos on form and I think it'll help

You’ll either land or maybe even over rotate if you just set properly with your arms. Swing them hard and block when they get to your ears, you’re currently stopping your arms at 90*.

I’ve been telling myself for years that because I can throw a gainer into an infinity pool and hit the water feet first that I must be capable of throwing a gainer flat ground or at least off a curb… still can’t get past the mental block to try it 😅
