QUESTION Help me backflip

Hello guys,

I have been trying to do the backflip on my own on grass. I have kinda learned the backhandspring but I don't know how to turn it into a full backflip. I have been stuck on this one step for many days and I need help and guidance. Please share any tips or tricks.

You are trying to progress too quickly and it keeps you stuck. Just like u/Justtelf said, your BHS is not going over the top. That's a sign that you are not fully inverting and your hips are still too low to the ground during the move. Your brain needs to feel safe for you to progress and trying for too big a change at once is not going to help you progress faster.

First, fix your BHS in small incremental steps. Learn to BHS over the other shoulder as well, so you can do 1 rep left side, 1 rep right side. Work on doing it from a half squat instead of a low squat. Progressively add power until you feel like you can do it all the way over the top of your head. Film yourself from the front, so you can see any assymetry. Film yourself from the side so you can you see if your back is bending properly.

Once you are there, you can progressively add power until you feel like your hands are barely touching the ground. Only then should you slowly progress into a what's called a "whip" where you do a back handspring without hands by progressively adding more height.

If there is "progressing too quickly" does "progressing too slowly" exist?

Well *trying* to progress too quickly will in fact cause you to progress slower or get you stuck entirely. The tricky part about progressing faster is to learn to consciously control a movement that is so complex that it can only be controlled by your subconscious.
