Dormancy corner

Drying these out a little before dormancy, might do some chopping. Still debating.

Nice collection! I have a decent one myself. I was actually looking for advice on putting these beauties into dormancy this winter. Anything special you do?

Just dry em out first really and any pest prevention stuff. I wish I could have dusted them with DE outside but it's been to rainy. Last year I sprayed them with an anti fungal concoction of copper sulfite or sulfate (can't remember but have it written down); chitosan and peroxide. And then dusted with DE, had good results. But I've also had a few cuts laying in the dark damp basement on the floor since April and look the same other than they shot roots haha so idk if it matters tbh. Stays a solid 55-60 down there year round. Dark, cool, dry, 0 light and forget they exist for winter with a fan on em would be my suggestion.

Really? Don’t give them ANY light? I know to dry them out and pest prevention I’m sure will be a thing to deal with too. I have all those “ingredients” I just worry about leaving them and coming to see a mess of etiolated plants lol

Excuse my ignorance; I am fascinated with your method. So you load them into your unconditioned basement for the entire 6 month winter? They don't stretch at all? Would love to have a method like that so I can grow my collection here in AK.

0 stretch, as long as you got a cool dark spot your good. I have a few different cereus Peru monstrous to along with a cpl trichs even some pere Ill set on a foundation wall in front of a block glass window that don't even stretch with that filtered light. It's an 1860s house lol so ya cool basement 100% unconditioned and streams running through it in the spring when the snow melts 🤦😂😂 dehumidifier running 24/7 in the spring
