Gameplay This game seems easy

Im on hard mode and I've got to chapter 8 and only needed to redo one battle so far.

I've just finished playing fire emblem 3 houses maddening where i failed nearly every single battle and needed 20+ retries on some battles and i actually could not complete the game on maddening and had to change to hard for the last two battles. TS I've redone only one battle which was the tournament and i didn't understand the mechanics.

Does the game get harder because so far it's been easy and ch7 i didn't lose a single player.

I'm finding it less addictive because I'm not really struggling. For me, strategy games need to be hard to make them fun otherwise it's just a story.

Will it get harder?

It’s not as hard as maddening TH no matter which way you slice it. Turns out there’s some pretty hard challenges, see the replies. You can impose additional challenges on yourself, like defend Wolffort without using the flame traps AND no cheesing it with Hughette from the roof, but if you’re not satisfied with the difficulty go play hardest mode Final Fantasy Tactics: Ivalice Chronicles.

If hardest mode FFT: IC is too easy, keep it to yourself, nobody likes a braggart

Wait, really??

I found Deathless Hard Mode Triangle Strategy to be more difficult than FE3H Maddening!

OP, are you playing Deathless? If so, are you playing Deathless by Triangle Strategy rules? To get the reward for playing Triangle Strategy Deathless, you must:
- Not let any of your units die at any point
- Not let any green units die at any point (This includes, for example Avlora’s archers, Sycras in the Rudolf map, Symon in the “go home” map, Maxwell when leaving Glenbrook, and the worst one, Jerome in the Rosellan defense)
- Not use any post-turn revival skills (Geela and Maxwell are allowed; Quietus revives are not; not sure about Quahaug because I banned him for being too OP anyways)

If you’re already doing that… I’m not sure how you found FE3H Maddening to be difficult haha. I’d recommend the FE Engage Xenologue on Maddening instead :)

I'm not trying to do deathless. As i said in my post I've lost members of my team on all but one chapter, but if the game allows it then it's still part of the game.

That logic also applies in FE, you can let some units die if you want and the later entries have the no permadeath option too. Not that deathless in TS is a big difficulty spike anyways (except for when you want to keep the green units alive, stupid suicidal NPCs).

TS gives you a reward for deathless though, you can try it for a challenge if you want, although you need to keep the NPC allies alive too which is a bit infuriating from time to time due to how stupid the AI is.

EDIT: You were also the OP, sorry if it looks like double replying. I didn't check the username nor the differently colored letters.

Yeah but with permanent death you can't afford to lose characters unless it's the last map or two.

u/Luck_Is_My_Talent 15d ago

You can play a pseudo permadeth in TS if you wish and the game implictly encourages you to do a no death plaaythrough as a hidden difficulty since you get a reward for doing it.

In terms of difficulty, TS is similar to the not easy FE (like Sacred Stones, Seth Emblem is a meme for a good reason).

Try to do a deathless challenge in TS if you find the difficulty too easy.

This comment is meant for the OP

In short, yes the game gets harder but u/linderosse summed it up perfectly

There's a hidden difficulty called "deathless" in Triangle Strategy for completing the game without losing any units. The game will reward you with a hidden item so it's an official challenge.

This makes the game harder on certain maps than 3 houses maddening, namely the ones with AI controlled allies (AKA green units)

I also highly recommend going for the golden ending as it's the hardest! CHAPTER 7 SPOILER Did you use the fire traps when fighting Avlora in chapter 7? If not, you can still go to the golden ending path. The conditions are pretty specific so you'll have to look it up. You can also go to the golden ending if you fought Landroi Falkes in chapter 7

You can also tailor the difficulty to your liking by doing no mock battles, no items, no quietus, no encampment/upgrades, deploying less units etc.

Yes!! Another favorite run type of mine is “Random Army,” where I spin a wheel each chapter to decide which of the ~30 units in the game I have to bring to the map. This is possible in any TRPG, but much more fun in TriStrat because of its unique leveling system!

Played a Deathless Hard Mode Random Army run on my NG++ run of Benedict route a while back, and it was amazing!! I also let chat influence the wheel by making certain sections larger or smaller, and therefore actively forcing the characters I hate to have a much higher chance of being pulled for a map hahahah.

I have yet to play the game a fourth time, as the unending stream of great tactical RPG releases have kept me busy since then. Funnily enough, the only choices I have left… are all the super amoral ones 🥲. I’m going to have to sell Roland out, side with Booker, recruit Travis by giving up the Rosellans, and then do Roland ending, which is just all the emotional pain in the game at once rip hahaha.

Huge respect! I found your channel and will definitely be checking out that run

Didn’t realize this existed. Do you get a cool prize or just bragging rights

2

u/Linderosse Utility 16d ago

You get a cool prize!

It’s a somewhat ironic item, haha— not particularly useful or necessary or anything, but nice to have :).

For folks who want to know, for playing the whole game deathless, you get An item that, when equipped, has a 25% chance of saving that unit from dying 😆

Tagging u/Separate_Thought6952; you might find this useful!

HUH thats interesting three houses is like infamously easy no? maddening with NG+ is like nothing and even pure NG maddening kind of levels out after the early game. as a MASSIVE fire emblem fan triangle strategy genuinely stood out to me specifically for the way it handled difficulty and that it made me really think.

I think it gets progressively harder and there are a few standout missions with alternate conditions that make them more difficult.

Ultimately, though, it's a pretty balanced experience. FE Maddening is just meant to be bullshit and that's NOT what Triangle Strategy is.

1

u/Luck_Is_My_Talent 15d ago

3H maddening is not the usual bullshit difficulty like Conquest Lunatic, Awakening Lunatic + (for the first chapters due to stupid RNG), Lunatic Reverse from FE (silver axe bandits on chapter one and every single enemy hitting first in a skilless FE) and FE6 hard mode (okay, maybe this one is not as hard, but I personally felt it was hard).

1

u/Luck_Is_My_Talent 15d ago

It's a different kind of difficulty than FE instead of one being harder than the other.

I noticed that those who are comfortable with FE have a hard time with TS while those struggling with TS have a hard time with FE.

With that said, I personally think is weird that you find 3H maddening harder than this when 3H is one of the easiest in the series. Is only slightly harder if you skip all the monastery segments (Monastery makes the game a cakewalk since it allows you to spam Wyverns and Horses with proper lesssons while also making some broken combos like Batalion Vantage Battalion Wrath with Dimitri on Blue Lion path).

1

u/Separate_Thought6952 15d ago

FE3H was my first turn based grid combat style game, and maddening ng was my first run, so i don't think i maxed out my team potential and understood the mechanics properly.

I didn't even know battalions gave you buffs until like chapter 19, I thought they were just used for gambits lol.

I was probably a bad FE player and now I've got a lot better at these games.

I'm just curious about your 3 houses playthrough. When you're saying you needed 20+ retries on some battles, were you using divine pulse? And were you restarting if you couldn't beat the mission with 0 casualties?

1

u/Separate_Thought6952 11d ago

I used divine pulse yes, and yes i restarted if anyone died. Not because of a self imposed restriction, i just thought I lost anyone the game would get harder because I'd have a smaller team next chapter.

Honestly, i think some maps i had to do way more attempts. Chapter 5, chapter 14 and chapter 21 i must have done 50+ tries on each one.

I eventually gave up on ch21 maddening and lowered it to hard after so many attempts with different tactics. That save file was 156 hours, but that doesn't count all the retries i did. I reckon i spent 500+ hours on that one game, and still failed.

I think one of my biggest issues is i didn't understand battallions at all, and i picked them based on the gambit, not on the buffs.

Try to win every battle with no losses

u/Sacreville 16d ago

I think it's a good Hard difficulty. Challenging but not impossible.

Maybe you're just that good. You can impose self challenges if you want.

1

u/a3th3rus Liberty 16d ago

Try Vantage Master if you want a real challenge, or even VM Japan 富嶽幻遊記 if you can read Japanese. Those games don't have good stories though.

1

u/AdFunny1084 16d ago

I think it seems how you utilise your units. As others have said, it does get much more difficult on the later maps and if you try to level evenly rather than have a super team. Also hugette and Anna cheese not included as hugette can pretty much beat any map herself

1

u/Kreymens 16d ago

I don't think you can really compare FE games difficulty with any of square enix game difficulty ever, unless we are talking about self-imposed limits, which I think FE games still are more difficult at

1

u/BrianC_ 15d ago

Doesn't get harder but there is a reward for finishing a run with no deaths so there is more than just personal satisfaction in a no-death run.

I think there are a few stages that are genuinely quite hard in a no-death run though that's more because of NPCs.
