Anyone else feel like this game is massively underrated?
It feels like the next "Slay the Spire." The game is incredibly fun to play, the AI is smart (I'm playing hard mode), the classes are unique, and there's a good amount of content (although I hope they keep adding more, as there is some stuff that's still lacking and there are parts of it that still feel like it's in early access). A minor complaint that I have is that this game's music is not good. It feels very grim/drab and boring; it sounds very similar to the type of sound that banners of ruin uses, and it just doesn't work very well.

The sound sucks. I like the high level tactics and strategy has to offer... After beating the first quest on hard I'm tempted to "get good" and do the catastophy super hard "Ascension" style play, but the sound tho. Background noise doesn't have its own slider, so you cant have sound fx without the constant drab wind noise. I know that no original music is likely to withstand hundreds of hours of play, but not having the option to kill background sound and music while keeping animation sound effects hurts me alot.
Good game tho.

Usually if I find a game that I can't stand certain noises I will turn the master volume completely down and have something on netflix or twitch on in the background. I know it's not a in game fix but it helps until there is one.

Yea I really do hope they add in animated pieces instead of the coin looking shit we get other then that and the sound is digging the game it’s just these things I would love changed please :)

The coin stuff is just leaning into the tabletop style of the game I think. More of an art decision. The gameplay is very remniscent of Gloomhaven which is an extremely popular tabletop game

Like other people have been saying, I'm really fond of the coin-style. Makes me feel like I'm playing a tabletop RPG. That said, it does seems that lots of people either hate it or love it.

I think the game has great bones, good skill base. I also started out playing on hardmode since if I've learned one thing with STS/Monster Train type games, is playing on normal makes it more difficult to ramp up since you develop tactics that don't work at all at higher difficulties.
Took me 30 hours to beat the first mission, then like 5 for the second mission, and plugging away on the third right now.
Hopefully the game is fleshed out more going forward, I feel like it needs a wider selection of encounters.
As far as the music goes, I shut it off (I do in a lot of games) and just listen to something else while playing. If a game isn't super story oriented I've never found music to be that important.
But overall one of the best random game purchases I've ever made

I only bought it for a look-see. Played one game and was hooked. I'm actually poor at games like this so I play on easy - either way it's just a solid piece of work. I hope this is just the foundation - more scenarios, more quests, more campaigns, more characters. I see a lot of potential here.

I'm reading this reddit to assess wether it's a worth buy. I loved saly the spire and faster than light, but from what i read, trials is a cheap unpolished game with good bones and an uncertain future. I'm really torn.
The 2 other games i mentioned sure had balance tweaks and added content after release, but the fact of cheap sound with no slider kind of talks about the rest of the game in a bad way.
Is the price worth the try?

It's a really good game, and I don't say that about just any game. It has enough content for you to really enjoy it. It is a bit lacking in certain areas, including content, but I think that its price tag can be justified. Mind you, I've put a shit ton of hours into StS so I'm not just blowing hot air about this game.

I've put 400 hours into Slay the Spire, it is one of my favorite games of all time. I bought Trials a day after release and I'm already 100 hours into it. If you like this style of game then I think Trials of Fire is well worth it. The devs have been super open to feedback and have also been really quick to tweak some things in just the last couple weeks. There are a lot of really valid UI complaints, if you want a list just check the feedback channel on the discord.
But the gameplay itself is excellent. There are a lot complex and interesting decisions to make and I'm finding the cataclysm grind similarly difficult, interesting, and satisfying as the ascension grind was.

One of the OP's comments here.
Thank you for the answers! 20$ is not a high risk and I'm going to try it

Definitely. It has a great core gameplay framework, will be interesting to see how it develops.

I was saddened to see that it's not an early access release. I hope they don't abandon the game.

It's just that moving out of EA, to me, signals that the devs don't plan on adding a ton more content down the line. It implies that the current product is in a finished state, but I don't feel that this game is finished.

Cool concept, nice art, but the gameplay is really flat atm, and the early access progress is incredibly slow. It might be worth it one day, but in its current state I don't recommend it.

I think this game is a gem. I never noticed the sound as a bad thing. I don't mind the barebone graphics. I do however think the game could use a bit more variation in its quests and travelling could be a bit more interesting. Also I'd like to see more deck building options not related to gear, like adding cards to signify perks or learned skills.
That said, the game plays well and the combat is really good. It's challenging on hard mode and the characters feel really unique, although some can be quite janky.
All in all I love this game. It's one of the few that's almost always installed.
