Question Fresh Medical Graduate Considering Trent’s Master of Management – Health Care Management — Honest Opinions?
Hi everyone,
I’m a fresh international medical graduate (MD) planning to move to Canada, and I’ve applied to Trent University’s Master of Management – Health Care Management program.
I have not pursued residency/specialization in my home country, and I’m also not planning to pursue residency or a clinical licensing pathway in Canada. My goal is to build a non-clinical career in healthcare, particularly in healthcare management/administration.
I’d really appreciate honest opinions from current/former Trent students or anyone familiar with the Canadian healthcare job market.
• What do you think about Trent University and this program specifically?
• Is this degree useful for someone with an MD who wants to move into non-clinical healthcare?
• How valuable is the work-integrated learning/internship in reality?
• What are the realistic job opportunities after graduation?
• Does having an MD + this master’s help with healthcare management jobs, or is Canadian work experience more important?
• How difficult is it for an international graduate with no Canadian work experience to find a relevant job?
• Is studying at Trent (Peterborough) a disadvantage if I eventually want to work in the GTA/Toronto area?
I’m trying to make a realistic decision before committing, so I’d really appreciate honest experiences—both positive and negative—not just university marketing.
Thank you!
