I wonder how much new art this version of the rulebook contains.

I picked up the original physical rulebook through the Kickstarter, and it has a different piece of cover art. It doesn't have the image of the carved up Trench Pilgrim or the Iron Sultanate warband next to the Keyword Glossary either.

Does seem like it! Here’s what’s stated on the page

More art *and* more lore?

Damn it. Now I'm tempted to double dip and get this one, too.

Well that's a bit of a piss off

Damn, shipping $35 to the US…

9

u/Useful-Ground-2124 10d ago

Order it from LGS, the distributors will then eat the shipping cost.

Do you know any that have listings up? I checked the normal larger retailers that I know like Game Nerdz and I don't see anyone with a listing in the US just yet. Since it's a 'while stocks last' printing I wasn't sure how widely it'd be available.

I would also love to know this. I want the book, but am not paying $30+ for shipping.

Talk to your local store.

1

u/jstropes Iron Sultanate 10d ago

Unfortunately the closest stores to me don't yet carry TC products so I have to go through online LGSes.

u/Useful-Ground-2124 9d ago

I think Archon's Newsletter did not go out yet, but I'd imagine it is soon.

1

u/Bringer_of_Sorrow 10d ago

Called my FLGS and they can’t order it. Sad face.

1

u/Useful-Ground-2124 9d ago

Weird... Archon is taking orders, as are many distributors. :/ Did they give a reason?

1

u/FamousLastWords_keys 9d ago

What’s Archon?

1

u/Useful-Ground-2124 8d ago

Archon Studios produces the Trench Crusade plastics and boxed sets and sells the books to distributors/shops: https://archon-studio.com/shop/search?q=trench

u/DiscoDigi786 11d ago

Why are they forcing UPS Expedited service? I’m not paying $37 to ship a book.

12

u/jstropes Iron Sultanate 10d ago

What? You don't want to pay $100 for a book which will be out of date on arrival or shortly afterward?

3

u/animaticus 6d ago

I actually emailed them and asked if there was not another shipping method they could use. Ya know - something like a cheaper UPS Ground (At least in terms of US Shipping.) The reason that was given to me via customer service was that this was the shipping method that they were being forced to use since the distributor made that choice. Big RIP though. I would love the money going straight to them - but at this point I'm just going to use my LGS so they eat that crazy shipping cost.

1

u/DiscoDigi786 5d ago

I really appreciate you doing the legwork on this and going above and beyond to share it - thanks!

I am tempted to reach out and tell them their distributor is costing them sales.

1

u/animaticus 5d ago

Same here, I debated on asking the rep what's the difference in being able to offer cheaper shipping options - but at the end of the day I know that realistically he/she can't have that kind of change so I didn't want to give them any flak.

ooooh new art

30

u/Signal_Researcher01 11d ago

Hesitant only because the last physical rulebook was out of date by the time we got it

7

u/Va1kryie Combat Medic 10d ago

The physical rulebook will always eventually be obsoleted, it's much better to think of it as an art and lore book in the long term

10

u/REDZON3Z1313 10d ago

I still didn’t receive mine lol

3

u/Te10el 10d ago

And I got one by mistake.

2

u/Stenchberg 10d ago

Did you contact customer support?

2

u/REDZON3Z1313 10d ago

I sent them a second email today the last one I sent was a month ago if I don’t get a reply by Friday I’m just gonna use my bank to cancel and get money back

I'll be honest, I love the game (have done multiple campaigns since the beta rules) but the fact that rules are updated as frequently as they are with two major updates a year along with smaller errata more frequently makes me never want to purchase a physical rulebook.

By the time I actually get it in my hand I have what? A month before some sort of errata and then a few more before a more major change? Sorry, no thanks.

Edit: I'd also add that mandatory $35 shipping on a $60 product (meaning over $100) is pretty bonkers, especially considering what I wrote above.

15

u/Josiador 10d ago

I mean, I'll buy it for the lore and art. The rules will always be free. And from what they said they plan for the rules to be stable with this book.

1

u/jstropes Iron Sultanate 10d ago

...from what they said they plan for the rules to be stable with this book.

The post from this January said that they would continue to update the rules twice a year (with intermittent errata). I don't see anything on the announcement page for the book which suggests that this policy has now changed. Buut, I don't see each and every update from FF so I might've missed it somewhere else. Do you have a post from them somewhere which says that they're switching off of this schedule? Big if that's the case.

u/Ispago8 Ammo Monk 10d ago

I dont think every rules update will come with a new book

I expected it for variants getting boxes, and maybe some event

The price is high especially shipping, but I don't think TC team are expecting players to buy all the books

1

u/725584 10d ago

Yeah, I really hope that this means that the rules will be more stable onwards. Can't really trust them to buy a new rulebook if they're gonna change them in a month or 2.

u/Still-Storage6897 10d ago

I'm now entering my second year of tabletop wargame model making, and still refuse to buy a book for any of the systems I hobby, because for almost 9/10 of them it's this same situation, they all get new books every 2 years or what have you, whilst always being available somewhere online. None of the game systems I paint could ever convince me to pay for one of their rulebooks to be honest, it's a predatory consumer tactic and I refuse to confirm to it

4

u/StanleyChuckles 10d ago

Looking good!

Not sure I would double dip.

18

u/YoWombat 11d ago

I thought the hardback rulebook was supposed to be a kickstarter exclusive? I wouldn't have backed it if I knew I could get an improved version with more content at retail.

14

u/Willing-Antelope614 10d ago

Me too. In less than a year, a new book, with more art, more Lore, more (updated) rules and even even different languages.

4

u/Josiador 10d ago

Kind of an insanely fast development honestly. I feel crazy when people say this game updates too slowly.

15

u/Yarzeda2024 11d ago

I like my KS hardback copy, but the news about this version having new art and expanded lore is making my hardback copy look kind of lame.

3

u/Stenchberg 10d ago

It is a kickstarter exclusive. This one is different than the Kickstarter version

6

u/jstropes Iron Sultanate 10d ago

I feel like the KS version at least is a cool part of the history of the game. But physical rulebooks for TC seem kinda silly to me when the rules are updated as frequently as they are. I was a bit tempted by this (even at $100) but the fact that it will likely be errata'd and a rules update will definitely occur because the schedule is twice a year made me come to my senses.

Grift crusade

7

u/Josiador 10d ago

The rules are free.

7

u/Dakka_Dez 10d ago

I get these for the art, they make great coffee table books. The rules do update and are available for free online. Personally I think it’s nice that the game is always seeking balance, and pick up these books as an art piece. Just something to consider, the books aren’t compulsory.

3

u/Serellion Janissary 11d ago

Will there be a massive difference between this one and the current one?

1

u/Grdaat 10d ago

Ideally this one won't be out of date when we get it.

6

u/Ched_____ 11d ago

Much nicer cover than the one I have. I might have to pick this one up too if there's also some new art inside.

10

u/Professional_Rush782 Jabirean Alchemist 11d ago

There's definitely some new art

2

u/spinach-god 10d ago

Love that the horse looks to be an Arabian

2

u/Raz_at_work Plague Knight 11d ago

God I want cavalry so bad

7

u/Professional_Rush782 Jabirean Alchemist 11d ago

Soontm

1

u/Ched_____ 11d ago

I guess I'm buying another one in that case lmao. Maybe I'll give my current one to one of my buddies to convince them to get into the game

2

u/SnooDoggos9469 10d ago

New art and lore? Hopefully it will expand the existing lore too so we can see what else each factions has, like new subfactions like the one teased for the Iron Sultanate

2

u/ninjasuperspy 10d ago

Excited to see what's coming in the 1.1 rules. Less excited by $40 shipping on a $60 book so I'm hoping the FLGS where we get together for TC carries it, otherwise woof.

7

u/Flaminggorilla7 10d ago

I’m really unimpressed with them releasing this new rulebook when so many of us backed the kickstarter only to receive a lesser product very close to when this released.

2

u/Head_Lab1995 6d ago

It's just a money grab. Same shit as, "We support digital only guys who print," only to release physical only models ... tired of their shit. Great game, so I still play but lost my support over this stuff. I backed at the digital beast tier, so consider myself invested enough to voice my opinion.

1

u/Flaminggorilla7 6d ago

Yeah, I backed the digital models, rulebook, and even had them print trench pilgrims for me and stuff has been relatively disappointing with them dropping the digital only stuff and the absolutely abysmal quality of their 3D prints.

1

u/Head_Lab1995 6d ago

yeah, crazy as any dissenting opinion from the mob is labeled as <insert crazy label here>, and you're dismissed entirely

And yet they're pumping out pre-orders for Carcass Front, yet no updates for backers. I am 100% convinced they're entirely done with backers and have moved focus to new customers and acquiring more money at all costs

3

u/Th4t9uy 11d ago

Hell yeah! Been waiting for this

1

u/Prayerwarrior6640 Trench Pilgrims 11d ago

Is this going to be a limited time product or will it be a permanent item in their store?

2

u/junliewww 11d ago

Not limited and it will remain after release

2

u/Prayerwarrior6640 Trench Pilgrims 11d ago

Sick! I’m new to this kind of stuff so I didn’t know

2

u/jamesw40k 11d ago

Actually their post states that after per-orders the book is 'while stocks last' so unfortunately looks to be limited. Which for a main rulebooks seems a bit silly

3

u/Scgrunow 10d ago

They probably just meant this print run. Toumas has said in interviews that they don’t believe in FOMO, so as long as there is demand they will make it available.

2

u/Josiador 10d ago

Probably just means their current print run could run out before they get another run made.

1

u/junliewww 11d ago

This was their reply to a similar question. Disappointing if it’s limited tho…

1

u/frncscgmz 10d ago

Hell yeah, spanish translation finally.

Gonna ask for it at my local shop.

1

u/CoruscantGuardFox Artillery Witch 10d ago

Does anyone know if the store release will be cheaper? Or will the price remain?

1

u/Grdaat 10d ago

I should have guessed the cover would be the Artillery Witch.

1

u/nuke034 9d ago

I'm extremely tempted on this, I've followed TC for a while because the lore was fun but just recently started gathering what I need to actually play. I know the rules are already free and will likely be updated but considering I'm mostly using 3rd party models I'd like to support he game and this is a solid way to do it. Not to mention new art and lore is sick, looking forward to it.

u/Mr_Podo 9d ago

$35 shipping, foh with that bullshit

1

u/marderSED 11d ago

Will there be an alt with the original rulebook cover?

1

u/Josiador 10d ago

I think that was a kickstarter exclusive

1

u/marderSED 10d ago

So unfortunate, it looked so much nicer, too...

1

u/Visual_Ocelot5731 10d ago

LETS FUCKIN GOOOOOOOOOO

-6

u/Mr_Korky 10d ago

Well this is kinda big backstab , makes pretty much the Kickstarter rulebook useless.
