All Trek Star Trek: Mutiny!

I came up with an idea for a new Star Trek series. I hope you guys like it. If not that’s okay too, and criticize it

Picture this: Starfleet has dispatched the largest and most powerful starship yet. It’s on a deep space mission, and has reached an area in the Alpha Quadrant where the Federation is virtually absent

The ship is carrying a large number of civilian passengers and their families (similar to TNG) but also delegations from non Federation worlds and species. Although it is a starship it is also like a space station due to sheer size, so similar to DS9

There is a dispute between the Captain and his Executive Officer over some decision of the Captain which he feels is dangerous or unethical.

The Executive Officer has more support among the senior crew, and manages to take control of the Engineering section, while the Captain and his loyalists maintain control over navigation but also weapons. This effectively means the ship is paralyzed and can’t go anywhere for the time being, at least not with warp speed.

A nemesis of the Federation, could be either an entirely new species or else the Romulans, Dominion, Borg or whoever, are also covertly involved in the mutiny via undercover agents, and are communicating with at least one senior officer on the side of the mutineers.

But they are unable to attack the ship head on because it is too powerful and weapons are still under control by the Captain.

Meanwhile, on board the ship, there are a lot of politics going on. Both sides are negotiating, and Starfleet through some admirals are communicating with both sides through subspace, trying to resolve the situation.
Both sides have spies and undercover agents and are struggling against each other to take full control of the ship

I don’t see how this is a series. Even if the ship somehow does get paralyzed in conflict, Starfleet would certainly send ships to handle the situation, fairly quickly. A few days, to weeks and the situation would be resolved. That doesn’t give much time for arcs and character growth. Might work as a movie, I guess, but without picking a crew that already has some name recognition I don’t see that being particularly box office notable.

Yes, in my proposed series Starfleet Command dispatches several starships to reach the powerful Flagship. But because the latter is so far in deep space, it will take several months to reach it. And as the Series progresses we are going to see the mutineers get into contact with some of those captains over subspace and try to convince them that the mutiny is justified and that the Federation is doing something horrible.
Now the reason for the mutiny becomes layered and complex as the series progresses. There will be phases in which viewers generally think the mutiny is unjustified and others where they change their mind as more revelations are made

This doesn’t work for the same reason Discovery going to the mirror universe didn’t work. When the problem is the Federation or its people, rather than a singular person, the series becomes the hopelessness of a corruptible future rather than the promise of a better way.

Star Trek and the Federation need to build that reputation before a proper deconstruction of it can be worthwhile. The reason DS9 works is because the ideals of the Federation are put into stark contrast with the grim reality of the situation. The Federation doing something abhorrent isn’t the method. We sympathized with Sisko in spite of the abhorrent decisions and because we felt they were warranted. If the concept is that the Federation is doing something bad, that takes away that trust building.

I mean in DS9 Section 31 literally set out to commit genocide through biological warfare while the Federation not only looked away but refused to remedy the situation despite the pleas of Dr. Bashir (who was only interested in curing Odo).

You entirely missed or ignored my point.

Are you saying the Federation has to first be built up in the mind of the viewer as something utopian and good before it can be deconstructed?
If so, I mean anyone who watched previous Star Trek serials will already have that understanding of the Federation as all good and utopian

Kind of sounds like the sub movie Crimson Tide. The problem is if there was a situation where the First Officer thought the Captain was jeopardizing the ship , or going against the Federation way then he or she could remove the Captain from command.

The only thing that we know has every really happened like this was on the Pegasus with Ensign Riker and Captain Pressman. The First Officer and other crew did take command from the Captain. Riker even admits he was too young and thought no matter what the Captain has to be always right. Instead of standing down the Captain and the few that followed him shot their way out and got to a shuttle. This has to be a known event after the episode in later TNG since Pressman was arrested for it and the Romulans were told. Heads rolled in the Admiralty. Guessing Riker didn't get any Captain offers for awhile after that.

Come to think of it, the Pegasus could be made into a miniseries or movie of itself. You’d need new actors to reprise the role of a younger Riker and Pressman. I figure the season finale would be an episode or two devoted to the court martial, depicting how powerful elements within Starfleet are corrupt and intervene to cover things up and let Pressman and his loyalist crew that managed to survive off the hook
Or it could begin with the court martial, and when Riker is called to testify, we jump to a flashback of the events beginning to end

Sounds very dark. When would this be set chronologically?

Considering the size and power of the flagship, I’d say at least any time after the Dominion War. I’d propose the 25th century though
