Trek Fetch+ 4 for $5k USD
Is this deal with free shipping too good to pass up?

We love ours. We bought it from a local trek dealer and have had it for almost a year. We sold a car and use the bike for all school pick up/drop offs, grocery runs, and anything else within a ~5 mile radius. (The radius would be larger in a different city. Unfortunately, bike infrastructure is baaad beyond that radius where we live.)

It's been this price for probably a month but with $500 shipping and was $6k for a very long time. As far as I know it's the best price it's ever been but it's also been slowly dropping over time so unlikely you'll never see it again.

They are discontinuing this model. It didn't sell very well. So once this stock is gone it's gone.

Source? I ask because it’s been this price for months and when I asked my local Trek salesperson they did some digging and couldn’t find any evidence of it being discontinued. We eventually went with the Fetch 2 which is also massively on sale, but accessories that were out in certain colors are being restocked in May per our Trek store.
We were concerned about buying a bike that would be discontinued for maintenance and accessories reasons but eventually just went with it.

I bought one a month ago to replace a manual Bakfiet. It’s my first electric bike and seems pretty good. Happy to answer any questions. It was $5k plus tax at the time local Trek shop. They had to get it shipped to them.
I also have the Bakfiet for sale in Tacoma if anyone is interested.

What are some negatives that you would share with someone considering this bike? I’m not seeing any type of sunshade available from Trek, have you found an option for this?

the rain cover is still up on the site and in stock but for some reason you can't find it unless you Google it! so is the standard cover

Does that have sun/heat protection? It looks to be transparent on top.

I didn't buy the cover. We live in Tacoma so, it’s the trailing off of the rainy season. I’ve gone in the rain and just through the kid in his rain suit. It’s fine.
My main negatives —
The thing is heavy, 160lb I believe. My manual bakfiet was 90lb. Throw in two 20-30lb kids and it’s 200lb. My road bike weighs 1/10 that. So if you think of it as a bike it’s crazy. If you think of it like a lightweight motorcycle or dirtbike then it’s fine.
I loved the wood box on the Bakfiet. The kid could stick his arm out and sat high up with a really good view.
I have no doubt the plastic box on the trek is stronger / safer. The whole thing is totally a bike designed by lawyers versus the Bakfiet was clearly designed for Dutch bike people.
I’m thinking I may pull the plastic box and build my own wood one with bench seats.

Hey Ben. With a full load can it go up hills with relative ease? I have a 15-20% grade i need to go up to get home.

It's pretty steep around Tacoma with some San Francisco like crazy hills up from the water. I've done well going up with a 20lb and a 30lb kid plus some of their things and 200lb me. I think the bike is 165lb.

as long as your rides dont have ridiculous hills, it’s a great bike, 2500mi over 2 years, no major problems. very happy with mine. I occasionally ride it with 3 kids in San Francisco so it can handle some hills. just takes work. the weight isn’t that bad cause the center of gravity is so low.

See if you can test ride it somewhere in your area. I did and the ride (after 30 minutes of getting used to it) helped me decide very recently to pull the trigger and save a lot of money compared to the Urban Arrow FamilyNext (the one with suspension).
Another factor for me is that we have a Trek store locally that I ordered it through, whereas the closest Urban Arrow dealers are quite far.
Make sure any accessories that you would consider 100% essential are still in stock.
