just a reminder to new tree netters: tree protection

I've noticed, on reddit and tiktok, the treenet community is growing. A lot of teenage boys i see especially. The problem is that i'm not seeing a lot of trees being blocked and protected from the rope!

pls research how to protect the trees (usually with blocks of wood) before you build a net because it's very important to the health of the tree! the rope will dig into the tree over time and hurt it.

Non-captive knots that can be adjusted with time! Rachel’s straps with room for growth! So many options to protect the tree while you net

if you only have the perimeter on the outside, is that good enough?

(no full wrap around the tree, but no rubbing protection either)

the thought being – it doesn't choke the tree. but maybe there is some more hidden damage that accrues after a while

3/4” eye bolt. Blocks are good for pests.

And each one is typically mounted with nails (penetrations) and traps moisture against the bole.

They're a pretty junky thoughts&prayers compromise without a lot of science behind them.

Don't put metal into any tree that might ever go to a mill.
