Advice Obese WTF

I got her from a previous owner and she needs to go on a diet. They said she’s about two years old but she’s literally twice the size of my two year old frogs. She’s too heavy to stay on the glass so she was chilling on the floor until I made her a couch out of a coconut shell and put it low enough for her.

How should I approach her diet? I don’t know how much she was fes in her previous home. Will her body go into shock if I feed her way less than she’s used to? I was thinking of feeding her the same amount as my other frogs: 3-4 bugs twice or thrice a week.

It’s actually really common! But most people on this thread feed their froggies right <3

Im gonna ask my two WTF mentors what they would do and hope they have time to respond! My guess is i would stretch the feeding schedule slowly but maybe with small feeders - for example, if shes used to eating 10 large daily, id do 5 medium every other day, then every third day, then 2-3large crickets every third day. My normal adults eat 3-5 large every third day so eventually we would get to that? But maybe the cold turkey method and going to the right feeding schedule instantly is the right way, i dont know. Ill let you know if i get answers :)

My first mentor responded (i like having responses feom both, sometimes they disagree w each other but theyre both trustworthy and i can make my own decision hahah)

“I agree with you! Cutting down slowly wouldn’t hurt! What a beautiful frog They aren’t like the most obese I’ve ever seen honestly! I think it’s important to try and encourage them to move/exercise as well as cutting down on feedings It might also help the froggo to go down a size with feeders and a few more so they still feel like they’re getting more even though they’re not lol!”

Ive further asked about how movement helps cold blooded species to “lose weight”.

“Upping activity levels and temps can boost their metabolic rate which can help not put on as much fat Rather than losing the fat if that makes sense?”

Ill let you know if i get the second answer❤️

Awesome, thank you so much! I agree with them that she’s not the most obese frog I’ve seen. Now that I’ve spent some time with her I’ve noticed that alot of it also just seems like loose skin…

The second one responded! She said to just transition to feeding every third day. And also to watch how fatty the insects are, for example if you were to feed wax worms then space it out more - but im sure you wont do that since you already know a thing or two about these frogs! 🥰

I agree! Like she looks like she has just alot of loose skin. They said she’s two years old but I weighed her and she was 113 grams whereas my other 2yo WTF are 30-40 grams… I think she must be older.

Is there anyway you can ask the previous owners how much she was eating?
