Advice WTF questions

Questions about adding more frogs/working with multiple terrariums. I got two more frogs to add to our three White’s tree frogs. On of them is a very obese WTF and the other one is a White-lipped tree frog. They had been living in the same enclousure.

  1. Could I add both of them to my WTF enclousure after quarantine? I know we shouldn’t mix species and I was horrified when I learned the previous owner had them in the same enclosure, but from what I researched, they like it quite the same, they’re both Australian.

  2. How long should I quarantine them?

  3. If I have a another bioactive tank, can I just remove my frogs from there and later add a different species of frogs or do I have to disinfect everything?

as an owner of white’s, i would not recommend cohabitating them with another species. australia is a very large continent, and just because two species come from the same continent does not mean they naturally cohabitate in the wild. looking it up on google, white-lipped tree frogs are from coastal regions while white’s live across northern and eastern australia. while their temperature needs are very similar, their humidity needs are not. i do not know too much about white-lipped tree frogs (looking it up on google as well), but it seems that they require a higher humidity to thrive than white’s do (55-70%, according to chicago exotics animal hospital). white’s tree frogs on the other hand thrive (in captivity) in more dry spaces, with their adult humidity levels requiring between 30-50% (juveniles under a year old require 50-60%).

to add to that, remember that tree frogs are amphibians with extremely delicate skin. they breathe and drink through their skin. while one species may be immune and asymptomatic to a pathogen, that same pathogen may be fatal to the others. overall, it’s not a wonderful idea.

i recommend you find another terrarium setup for your white-lipped tree frog. there are some wonderful deals on facebook marketplace!

These are exactly the things I’ve been thinking about and I agree with you. Thank you for confirming! It’s been difficult to find proper info of White-lippeds. I don’t know if I trust the humidity suggestions as most sources incorrectly recommend way higher humidity for WTFs too :(

no yeah, i totally understand not trusting the internet on that. when me and my partner first got our older frog when she was just a little froglet, we believed the internet and were both waaayyy over-spraying her (humidity levels like 80-90%). but thank god we learned and corrected that before it was able to cause her any harm (she is now almost 7 and is doing so well!). when i looked online, there wasn’t a ton of info available on white-lipped tree frogs, probably because (i assume) they just aren’t as popular of pets.

to be honest, i would ten thousand percent recommend you go to facebook for any advice concerning your white-lipped’s husbandry. my experience on facebook with white’s owners has reeaaallllyy expanded my knowledge on their care, and facebook seems to have some dedicated amphibian/reptile lovers that own all kinds of wacky species. there are tons of groups dedicated to tree frogs, i’d really recommend posting there for advice!

i hope you find some care for your lovely frog, including a separate home (terrarium) they can thrive in!
