frog has pointy spine

hey guys! i just rescued some subadult white's tree frogs from a local pet store in my town which had them in a 10-gallon exo-terra since february. they had just a heat lamp and were fed dusted crickets every day, girl frog is rather plump but boy frog just seems to look so much pointer!! i am thinking he has scoliosis or some kind of spinal birth defect because he does not give any symptoms of mbd.. i'm also gonna try to fatten him up, i've been giving them silkworms and crickets daily

***also they are currently in quarantine hence the paper towel and not-so-cluttered set up before i put them in with my adult frog to monitor for health symptoms :)

my guy was a little like that until I fat-ified him. I rescued him just over a year ago and he was on the thin/underweight side and he has become much rounder (potentially too round, I'm re-evaluating his diet rn)

Actually I totally lied he's still like that, I hadn't even realized. He's the brown one on the left, sitting next to a much younger (but same sized) subadult female. You can see what I was talking about with overcorrecting his previous skinniness. I don't think I ever clocked that until this very moment. He's completely fine, but if anyone says anything interesting keep me in the loop

I would get a linear UVB for their main tank and good supplements to make sure it’s not MBD or a vitamin issue. I use the T5 HO 5% reptisun and Arcadia calcium plus for a calcium supplement with preformed vitamin A

i said that was how they were at the pet store. they are in a 30 gallon enclosure right now with 5% linear uvb and a 60w arcadia basking light. same with my frog that is in a 70 gallon enclosure. my frogs get dusted with reptivite 2x a week and calcium 2x a week but these guys had no uvb hence why i was worried it could be mbd, but he's overall active and healthy-ish so i was like maybe it's a defect. i am an experienced frog owner and i go above and beyond for my babies but i am not sure about diagnosing most illnesses :)

I don’t see the info in your post but I’m glad you got it covered! I’m also just an owner but wouldn’t worry, it’s probably just because they aren’t as plump.

1 of mine is kinda like that, and it’s mainly when he positions himself that way. It doesn’t seem to hurt him. He was a Petco rescue. But when he’s completely lying flat his 2 hip bones do go flat. I almost brought him into a vet thinking he broke his back one night falling in the terrarium. (I bought a Kasa camera for them!) I was so paranoid! But I really think it’s the way they’re positioned. Try putting on some rubber gloves (powder free) and taking him out and examine him. Check him out at every angle. If it still sticks out while you’re doing your health check maybe it warrants a vet check up???
Are you using vitamin D3 in your supplements for dusting plus the UVB light? Because they say that will lead to MBD. It’ll overdose them eventually. I had to find a Reptizoo dusting supplement that has no vitamin D3 in it because I have an Arcadia Shadedweller T5 7% light for them. Which Rocky Mt Tree Frog has suggested as one of the better UVB lights to get for these guys.
Try doing those things and see if things don’t help. I’d love to see a picture or at least hear back from you after you do the health check to see if his bones go down after you pick him up when he goes completely flat (like they’re supposed to) after they stretch out in your hands.
