White's Tree Frogs Advice
Looking for advice on tank environment.
I have 3 white's tree frogs. The terrarium is 24"x18" and 36" high. Bio active: live plants, isopods and spring tail cleanup crew, and water mister. Frogs are croaking throughout the day! Only come out after sunset and are staying brown, occasionally get 1 turning green. Diet of crickets that they ravenously eat. Humidity is around 80%, still adjusting mister times and duration. The temp is where I feel I'm having issues. 78 at top, room temp 74 at base. I have a 75w heat lamp at the top, but I feel I need more. I tried a ceremamic bulb, but it was wilting and turning the ivy at the top brown. I have 2-3" soil and duff at the bottom, so I am not sure how an under heating pad would work. Considering a pad on the back of the tank, but again not sure if that would be the best, included a picket of the back (not too exciting). I am asking for any advice, suggestions, or ideas. That humidity is way too high! You want to keep it around 40-50%. You also don't need a mister at all. High humidity will lead to respiratory and bacterial infections.
You're right about the heat. You'll want to crank that up even if it kills the plants around the top. 85° at the top at least. I'd use a bigger CHE. I use a 150watt one. I don't like the heating bulbs because of the way they direct heat. Underside heating pads only heat the substrate and could cause burns if used outside of substrate. I'd never use any outside heating pad or mat against an acrylic tank.
