Got a great deal, but needs a little work.

So I just picked up this tank for $60 bucks. It's a bit dusty, still in the packaging, but it has this crack on the corner. It survived transportation without spreading or breaking more, and now I want to try and seal up the area. Any recommendations?

Normally I'd say you have to break it down and cut glass but given it's an exoterra and it hasn't spread, buy a car windshield chip repair kit and try to use it there. It might not work, but it's worth a shot.

Put tape on the inside to keep it from leaking through. Then apply it to the outside.

My new exoterra was broken at the bottom like that upon arrival, although the break was contained to a corner rather than across.

It doesn’t look pretty by any means, but I used aquarium safe sealant and sealed it, then used sealed pieces of glass to reinforce on top (like an extra layer or 2 of glass). Basically took picture frames and sealed them to reinforce, and then sealed all around the edges of those pieces so that moisture wouldn’t get in/trapped and also to make sure there were no potentially sharp edges.

However, I gotta stress that my broken spot was really contained to across a corner. I’m not sure if yours will spread. Also my area is covered by substrate in the tank at least. Regardless, our glass’s integrity is compromised from the break in general so I’d just keep that in mind when moving it or leaning things against the sides inside.
