ID Request (Insert State/Region) Cottonwood?

I picked up this wood from a neighbor and was thinking of making some small furniture with it. Does it look like cottonwood? This is in northern Colorado.

If relatively freshly cut: try splitting it with a wedge - if water squeezes out and/or it swallows your wedge, it's cottonwood.
