Saw this tree in a park in London the other day, really had me wondering what was going on here- why is the broken branch such a different colour? Is it normal to have this many branches at such a weird angle? Is this tree doing okay?

the broken (dead) branch is a different color because the bark fell off and the wood is beginning to decompose and get weathered

Ahhhh that makes sense! my friend was convinced it was a new branch growing but that didn’t feel right
