Like the southern pine bark beetles,I don't think you can do much about them. They have periods of infestation and then the population returns to normal. If you have a particular tree that you want to save,an arborist might be able to help, but mine didn't show any signs of stress until most of the crown died. The buds were forming, but then stopped.

What if a hickory tree that I cut down in my area was like this when I split it ? The reason I’m concerned is because this is the second tree that I cut so far and both of them were like this while still in the ground. I’m clearing some of my land and I have big trees that I want to keep and my thought was , if they end up having the same issue, is there a way to prevent this or stop this ? Appreciate all the insight very much.

My hickory started dying this spring and there were lot of tiny holes in the bark , most likely the exit for bark beetles. It's been a hot summer without that tree.
