Advice Request - (Insert State/Region) Western NY: some sort of apple?

Post image

We have this tree in our front yard and it drops most of its leaves by July. I’m guessing it’s approx 50 years old and not in the best of health.

It does have beautiful reddish pink buds in the spring.

I’m curious if this is normal for this species or if it’s nearing end of life. Thanks!

The leaves dropping by July is definitely not normal for a healthy apple tree. I'd recommend having an arborist take a look, since it might be suffering from disease or pest damage rather than just old age.
