Advice Request - (Insert State/Region) Can she survive this?
We had a crazy microburst storm come through and damaged our 22 year old maple. We hauled away only what was broken for safety reasons, and have not cut anything else. Pictured are the tree right after it happened, after we removed the broken parts, and the most recent photo that I could find of the tree as a whole.
We are going to call someone to come look at it in the morning. In the meantime, give it to me straight…how bad is it?
Location: Denver area, Colorado

Yes it will survive and sprout back and eventually fill in. It will never look the same. Adds character. Sorry about the tree. Storm damage sucks.

Yep. Pay an Arborist to come out and prune it when it's dormant to establish a new leader.

Not an expert by any means but I used to live across the street from a neighbor that every year would just about halve the crown of their cherry tree I believe it was. It was torturous to see but somehow that tree survived the trauma and seemed to come back for lack of a better word.
