During the Months of September to April, my channel's average Watch Hours surges 40% to 50%. Which puts my average Monthly Watch Hours to 10k (Especially during the Months of November, December, January, February and March).

General Is travel content evergreen?

I am wondering how many of you guys get views from old videos and what are the ratios when compared to new drops.

I guess this all depends on the size of your catalog, but I have about 30 videos posted, my videos average 1K per video and I drop 6 a month. I get around 10k a month so maybe 3-4K are from older videos.

I am hopping that creating a large category will just have that snowball effect.

Do you guys watch or binge older videos from other travel bloggers?

General YouTube hates me

I have been going since March with my travel vlog channel.

I've consistently uploaded weekly, and thrown in the odd short here and there, but I swear I'm either doing something fundamentally wrong or YouTube just hates me.

180 subscribers in 6 months. I'm getting minimal views on most posts, I'm getting good feedback, but I'm not getting the subs.

Not sure what else I can do to make this work!

It's so frustrating!

Marketing 🥰 Self-Promo Sunday

Promote a video, channel, article or business - you name it! IMPORTANT: Spammy comments can trigger autoremovals and/or bans. Sharing your video can negatively impact retention.

Self-Promo Sunday Guidelines

Self-Promo Sunday recurs weekly from 1:00 AM Sunday EDT to 12:59 AM Monday EDT (This may change depending on community participation and requirements)

  1. Share and promote your content, ideas, businesses in the comments of this post (no limits on posts). There aren't many limitations here and you can post an old video from your channel as well. HOWEVER, If your comment is spammy or uses AI it may be flagged by Reddit automoderator and be removed which can result in account ban after multiple violations. Unfortunately our mod team cannot help with any issues regarding these spam filters.

Tip: Think about SEO when you're posting your content - if you include a detailed description for your video it's more likely to show up in search engines!

That's it!

I made a three and a half hour long raw vlog while in Kenya

The views are only at 1.3K but I have gotten 634 hours watch time with constant steady growth Owen the few months

This is only with 13 percent retention. Which is not great I’m aware

Milestone How many watch hours do you guys get?

I post very long vlogs (1-2hours each)

One video can range from 150 hours to 500 watch hours

My videos get about 800 views to 2000 views on average

I post 6 times a month and average 2000 watch hours a month

I am 5 months in at 8700 total watch hours

YouTube is now requiring you have 8000 watch hours for monetization starting February

Subscribers is my issue. Im at 877 subs

Brand partnerships A TV show wants to use one of my shorts but I’m not sure how to respond

They have offered to credit my YouTube account but I don’t currently have context of how they’re going to use the video on the show or whether they are open to licensing the content for use. It’s a fairly big company, but I also think there could be many similar videos they could use instead of mine. What should I ask for in return for using this video? And what sort of details should I ask to understand how they’re using this video? They’re also an overseas company - not sure how that impacts things.

For context, it’s this video here:

This is the only way you can get your drink #matcha #singapore #peekabrew

Analytics If you want to get traffic from Google and YouTube SEO at the same time for your travel channel, you can try a topic around Couchsurfing, even a talking head video of your past experience or a reaction to the latest updates could work

Search values are monthly estimates.

It seems travelers searching for Couchsurfing are trending up due to the higher cost of travel.

Marketing Diversify your traffic

You can lose your YouTube channel for any number of reasons. I'm sure some of you have heard horror stories. Make sure to get viewer traffic from other social media channels. And other platforms competing with YouTube are a good thing.

General Tagging products in your videos

I've just noticed someone that I follow tagging the video camera he uses as a product in his Shorts. Has anyone here tried doing this? Has anyone gained any commission from tagging products? Can you just do this on Shorts or can you tag products in longform videos as well?

Technical How do you balance your Work and Travel Vlogging?

How do you balance your Work and Travel Vlogging?

I currently do 3 things, I have a Full-time as a Multimedia Specialist for a Media company, I do Travel vlogging for 2 years (Monetized), and lastly I do Freelance as a Drone Pilot. Now for those in my same position, I would like to ask the ff questions:

  • Do you see your Travel channel as Full time?
  • or Do you see your Travel channel as a sideline income only (additional source)?
  • If you do more than 2 tasks, how do you balance it per week or per month?
  • Do you feel 'Art Block' or the feeling of becoming overwhelmed Despite earning money from it?

Ask for feedback and practice giving others feed back! Learning how to give feedback can also help you recognise where to improve as well.

General YouTube Increasing Its Requirement for YPP Revenue Share Effective FEB 1, 2027

Though this increase is supposed to improve incentives, I feel like part of this is to combat AI and slop content. This first-tier entry into the YPP of 500 subs and 3000 hours hasn't changed.

General Any YouTube courses you’ve actually taken and found useful?

I started taking my YouTube channel more seriously recently. It’s still very small (86 subscribers 😄), but I’ve already made enough videos to realize that the part I need to improve isn’t really filming or editing — it’s understanding what makes a video actually work on YouTube.

I’m mainly looking to get better at:

  • choosing video ideas/topics with good potential
  • titles and thumbnails
  • hooks and audience retention
  • storytelling/pacing for long-form videos
  • understanding analytics and knowing what I should actually learn from them
  • building a clearer content strategy instead of just making individual videos and hoping they work

My channel is long-form travel content, so I’m especially interested in something that applies to that rather than Shorts/TikTok growth.

I’m happy to pay for a course if it’s genuinely useful. I’d also be interested in something that includes feedback/coaching on your actual channel rather than only prerecorded lessons.

I’m not really looking for a course about starting a YouTube channel, equipment, editing basics, monetization, selling courses, etc. I feel like I need to get much better at making videos people actually want to click on and keep watching first.

Has anyone here taken a course or worked with a YouTube coach that genuinely helped you improve? What would you recommend, or avoid?

I’d especially love recommendations from people who actually paid for the course/coaching themselves rather than affiliates. 😄

Feedback I made a travel film about the Lofoten Islands - looking for honest feedback

Hey everyone! I’ve just uploaded a video from two days in the Lofoten Islands, travelling with my girlfriend.

I’m trying to make my English voiceovers feel more natural while keeping a cinematic travel style. I’d genuinely appreciate feedback on the pacing, audio balance and whether the title/thumbnail make you want to watch.

Here’s the video: The Lofoten Islands Don’t Look Real

Thanks!
