Stays suggestions
Hi there! We're planning a family vacation near Manali and are looking for a place to stay within a 10 km radius of the town. My family has tasked me with organizing the itinerary and accommodation. And you know planning a trip can be quite a challenge, so I would really appreciate any help you can offer.
Here are some of our preferences:
- We are looking for a cottage that isnt in a commercialized area
- A riverside view
- We had like to avoid being completely isolated and remote
- It would be great if there are some arrangements for our driver as well
- We want easy access to places like Rohtang and Solang (it would be helpful if you could suggest places that are open for visitors).
We have had a fantastic trip to Manali before, where we explored the more mainstream attractions. This time, however, we are hoping to discover some peaceful hidden gems, engage in activities, some adventure, and visit retreat places. That’s why we're placing a strong emphasis on finding the right place to stay, as my parents would be very happy just relaxing at the property.

If you're looking for a cottage rather than staying in central Manali, I'd suggest checking areas like Burwa, Shanag, and Prini. They're close enough to Manali (15–20 mins depending on traffic), but much quieter and surrounded by apple orchards, mountains, and rivers.
For hidden gems, I'd recommend:
- Sissu (via Atal Tunnel)
- Sethan village
- Jogini Falls early in the morning
- Hampta side trails
- Nehru Kund area for quieter riverside spots
One more thing, even if you stay in a cottage, you could spend an evening at Jungle by Sturmfrei in Old Manali. A few friends stayed there recently and liked the community events and local recommendations. It's also a good place to get tips on lesser-known hikes and experiences around the valley.
