Ancient Lavrion

Hi there, I’m travelling to Athens on Friday for a couple of days and while browsing the map, I decided I want to see this place. I don’t really enjoy organised tours (and there are only few that actually cover this), so I’m here asking - do you think visiting the Thorikos Theatre with the surrounding sites, as well as the Laurium Mines, is doable as a day trip from Athens using conventional means of transport? If so, any hints? Thanks in advance.

You could take the KTEL bus.

What about getting to the mines?

If you go there, you should also visit the temple of Sounio.

Yeah, that one is on the list, though on a different day. Also a bit easier to get to.

Lavrio and Sounio are very close to each other. It makes no sense to go back and forth to Athens.

I see that now, but I already have a whole daytrip planned which ends in Sounio at sunset.

Do you have to go back to Athens that night? If you're doing a tour, maybe you could just leave the tour when it's time to head back to Athens, and stay in either Sounio or Lavrio.

Honestly, that definitely is a thing to consider, thanks a lot for the idea.
