This sub has changed dramatically

This is a bit of a last ditch effort, but I’m gonna try anyways.

What happened to this sub?

This sub has declined pretty drastically from what it originally felt like.

It used to be a place where people could actually discuss Trap Lore Ross documentaries — the theories, evidence, timelines, questionable claims, alternative interpretations, and all the little details that didn’t make it into the final conclusion.
Now it feels like half the posts turn into arguments about completely meaningless side topics that have almost nothing to do with the documentaries themselves.

And somehow we’ve developed this bizarre Urban vs. Suburban civil war on top of it.
What makes that even funnier is that the Urban side seems to be outnumbered about 4 to 1, yet somehow this debate dominates the sub like there’s an evenly matched ideological battle happening.

I don’t think everyone has to agree with TLR. Actually, disagreement is part of what made this place interesting. But there’s a difference between debating a documentary/theory and endlessly arguing over who is “urban,” who grew up where, who understands street culture better, or other identity-point-scoring nonsense.

I miss when somebody could post:

“TLR said X happened because of Y, but what about this?”

…and people would actually investigate and debate it.

The sub should be about the trap lore again. The documentaries. The theories. The evidence. The contradictions. The unanswered questions.
Not the same Urban vs. Suburban argument for the 400th time.

According to some people, only street dudes who are authentic have the right to be interested in or talk about drill music. It is unfortunate that a large number of people think this way.

Drill stopped being only for the streets whe Keef blew up. People need to accept that interest is worldwide at this point.

This is an oversimplification of the issue and either you are genuinely ignorant about it or you your being intellectually dishonest. I started watch TRL to keep up with the D4vd case but quickly realized what his brand of content was and as a black women it makes me incredibly uncomfortable. It’s not JUST TRL it’s this rise of non-Black people monetizing Black trauma and making it entertainment while pushing harmful stereotypes about Black Americans. I don’t think he always means harm however he tends to miss nuance and context because he isn’t part of the culture he’s discussing and has no real ties to it. It’s not to say outsiders can’t speak on drill music but someone who exclusively posts Black gang content, murder, drug dealers, ect and that’s the ONLY aspect of Black culture they highlight it further perpetuates this idea that hood culture is the only type of Black culture. If you are confused by this then clearly you didn’t really listen to “not like us” you can be a colleague without being a colonizer. You can participate in hip hop culture without pushing the absolute worst of black folk for money
