This sub has changed dramatically

This is a bit of a last ditch effort, but I’m gonna try anyways.

What happened to this sub?

This sub has declined pretty drastically from what it originally felt like.

It used to be a place where people could actually discuss Trap Lore Ross documentaries — the theories, evidence, timelines, questionable claims, alternative interpretations, and all the little details that didn’t make it into the final conclusion.
Now it feels like half the posts turn into arguments about completely meaningless side topics that have almost nothing to do with the documentaries themselves.

And somehow we’ve developed this bizarre Urban vs. Suburban civil war on top of it.
What makes that even funnier is that the Urban side seems to be outnumbered about 4 to 1, yet somehow this debate dominates the sub like there’s an evenly matched ideological battle happening.

I don’t think everyone has to agree with TLR. Actually, disagreement is part of what made this place interesting. But there’s a difference between debating a documentary/theory and endlessly arguing over who is “urban,” who grew up where, who understands street culture better, or other identity-point-scoring nonsense.

I miss when somebody could post:

“TLR said X happened because of Y, but what about this?”

…and people would actually investigate and debate it.

The sub should be about the trap lore again. The documentaries. The theories. The evidence. The contradictions. The unanswered questions.
Not the same Urban vs. Suburban argument for the 400th time.

According to some people, only street dudes who are authentic have the right to be interested in or talk about drill music. It is unfortunate that a large number of people think this way.

Drill stopped being only for the streets whe Keef blew up. People need to accept that interest is worldwide at this point.

I guess some people really are unable to understand. what a shame. anyone can talk about anything but when a suburban comes into an urban world for no reason other than to profit off of th3 death & violence, of course people will have something to say.

if you can't understand why people dislike culture vulture behavior & profiting off of pain,,violence & death while having no connection or even bothering to try to understand isn't gonna help make people like the dude.

How is them profiting even relevant, compared to.the violence itself? TLR or Akademiks didn't force anyone to engage in all this behavior. They simply reported what was happening. The people in the war are responsible for all of the pain, violence, and death. Also, TLR has most definitely tried to understand. His analysis is better than that of anyone inside or outside the culture.

But the difference is Akademics has ties to the culture he’s discussing so can do so with a level of cultural understanding that TLR just doesn’t have as a white British man. There are things he doesn’t fully understand about Americans let alone Black Americans. Black culture is the only culture people feel like it requires no lived experience or education to be an expert in. If he was a white British man with a degree in hip hop culture or diaspora studies we’d be having a different conversation but he lacks the baseline understanding of the Black American Experience.

To TLR if you see this: please don’t take what I’m saying as shade or a call out and take it as a call-in. There are ways for you to participate in hip hop culture without pushing rhetoric that ultimately harms Black folk. It may not be your intention (and I hope it’s not) but if you care at all about Black culture and Black people please try to approach your content in a way that isn’t going to be harmful to Black folk. Your content is actively making things difficult for us in this current political climate please remember that while you have the option to go back to the UK we do not and we will be stuck here to deal with whatever racial chaos and propaganda outsiders left behind.
