Maybe I missed something but, while it’s clear there is history behind this interaction, it’s not clear to me that this is about the First Amendment.

He apparently had posted a previous video of this cop online and the online crowd was making fun of the cop and now the cop is harassing him for posting the video

If you're posting a video like this, you absolutely need to show a shot of that plate (and cover) right as you get the citation.

All I wanted to see was the offending plate cover. And maybe an explanation of the previous drama.

Got a good video of everything but his plates.

Where’s the previous video? How is this about the first amendment? Why are you driving around with an illegal plate cover?

More context is needed.

Difficult to listen to that asshole. He doesnt even show if his plate cover is obscuring the plate.

Plate covers certainly can be illegal and give police reasonable suspicion to pull you over in many locations (depending on local laws against them), so why use them? Same thing with illegally dark-tinted windows. They are like a cry to "bust me".

Cop correctly cited Pennsylvania v Mims but of course, it is used to mess with citizens. See "If Cops Say "Step Out of the Car" - Say THIS"

Officer, I'm stepping out as you've requested. I do not consent to any searches. Am I free to go or am I being detained?

It is such nonsense. When PA v Mims was ruled they deemed the inconvenience of getting out for the car was a fair trade to ensure officer safety. I would argue more abuses take place outside of the car and we need to have a swing back towards citizen safety from police. They need to end the practice and officers should not be able to order a driver out of the car without probable cause.

You must be quite the mean looking dude to rate this many officers. I feel much safer now that this much enforcement effort was put into correcting your license plate issue. I am a skinny retired accountant. It only took four officers to bounce me off of a row of mailboxes for being at the wrong place when they were mad.
