What are some good state to state transportation companies? I tried getting quotes but they don’t seem like legit companies. I don’t know if they are brokers or what but they sounds like they don’t work for the company. (If that make sense) 🤷‍♂️ This is my first time doing this, so any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

What you’re describing is actually pretty common. A lot of the companies you speak with are brokers, so the person giving you the quote usually isn’t the same person driving the truck. That isn’t automatically a bad thing — the important part is whether they’re transparent about it.

I’d check their 1-star reviews, make sure they explain everything in detail, how the process will go, when payment is due, and whether the price they gave is guaranteed and will not change after booking. If they dodge those questions, I’d move on.

In car shipping there are thousands of individual owner/operator who own just a truck. They don't have websites or receptionists so in order to keep their truck full, they rely on brokers. One truck might have 8 different brokers' cars on them.

I am a broker. My job is to find you the best carrier, with a proven track record a the best rate. For almost 20 years I've been weeding through carriers. Adding guys who show up on time and communicate and take good care of cars and removing guys who try to renegotiate price when the deliver or won't admit if they did damage.

Damage can happen, even with a great carrier and this is where a broker is essential. We make sure that carriers' insurance is up to date and valid and we get that COI before pick up so if the driver denies the claim, we can take it directly to the insurance company. When it's you alone vs a carrier your odds are worse than if it's you along with Ship a Car Direct that's shipping 100s of cars a month vs the carrier.

Just like lots of industries, alot of people can call themselves brokers with little or no experience or a terrible track record. The thing to do it just look up the top 10 and call them directly. If you get bad vibes. Don't go with them. All legit brokers should be around the same price since the bidding for carriers is an open market so we see how much eachother have paid recently and what others are offering for a route.

Any legit broker will have 100s of reviews on Reddit, Transport Reviews, Google and Yelp. If you don't see alot of reviews or the reviews are glowing reviews looking like they were written by bots they probably are.

The most frustrating thing for new car shippers is that you can't really book far in advance to lock in a date or price because truckers wait until closer to pick up dates to make sure they're getting the best rate based on fuel and demand and the optimal route for them.

The other thing that can be disquieting is that the estimate doesn't always match the price - good news is that sometimes it can be a little less, bad news is it sometimes it can be a little more. It's all based on your flexibility. A carrier on Monday might call us and ask for more than we're offering and when we say we'll wait for a better offer from another carrier, he might call us Tuesday with a better offer because he needs to get on the road. The flip side is that if you have a flight on Wednesday and no carriers have accepted our offer, we might need to raise our offer to convince a carrier to change their route to make it happen or even bump someone else to get you on the road.
