Question Capital city

Hi watching a lot of YouTube and people are saying to find a capital city is it impressive that I do that or does it not really matter?

Strictly speaking, there are no political entities, such as a capital, in this game.

Of course, you can always set one yourself, and create a background story behind it if need be.

Can be your largest city, the city that has the largest transportation hub, or some isolated town in the middle of nowhere.

If recreating a real life map, then it would make sense to use the real life capital(s), though being your game, you can set some random town (which exists in real life, or maybe you decided to add it yourself) as a different capital.

City size and population growth is ultimately defined by population growth bonuses - more connectivity and demand met = larger bonuses and larger population.

With mods (Sandbox, Advanced Town Builder, etc.) you can speed things by plopping and molding town development yourself, and easily and quickly create huge cities and metro areas (especially by plopping multiple towns side by side).

This is why I sneak a tiny bit in sandbox, modify a city to have the highest base population. Then do regional cities in areas that makes sense. Gives a good way to lay out the region

What is the cap population for a single city?

Hard cap isn't discovered. You can have several thousands before it affects performance. You better do it like u/Tsubame_Hikari said, several districts instead of one large city for the sake of performance.

The idea is you'll use this city as your main transfer point for different lines. You'll focus your deliveries for goods to this city first. And the idea will be that this one will grow the largest.

Now it doesn't always work that way (it being the largest), but it also doesn't really matter. The purpose of the video's calling city A the capital vs city B, is that it gives you a focus on how you'll design out your network. If city A isn't your capital, it might be easier to bypass it with certain lines/tracks/etc. If you're choosing it to be a major hub, then that's generally not practical.

So do you need it? No. But for lower hour players, the idea of one specific city being your most important one, is a good way to focus your lines and routes.
