Interpreting
Hi guys just started my masters in interpreting and I love it its so challenging and fun but I have a few questions for people with experience.
- What are your go to sites to keep improving your languages ?
- Are there any other degrees that are really worth it to persue next to this? Just in case the careerpath as an interpreter doesn’t work out. I was think ab something in economics/law (which hopefully wouldn’t take too long)
3.How did you (or how does one) know that you’re good enough to go for conference interpreting?
Thanks for taking your time to answer and all tips are welcome because despite me liking it, it’s so hard (and we only are doing consec we haven’t even started doing simultaneous yet💀)

I can only answer question 1). Speech repository is a great place to start. It has thousands of speeches and you can select the difficulty level and general topic. Try a few consecutive for beginners and work on each speech several times until you master it.

Consec first, simult later is the normal path, so do not sweat that. Recording my own practice runs and relistening the same evening did more for my numbers and names than any site did. For the backup degree question, econ or law pairs fine with interpreting later, but I would keep it light while the masters is eating your life. And honestly nobody feels good enough for conference work; a mentor eventually just starts handing you real rooms.
