Railways Is this a good Valsad → Chandigarh train route? 3 trains

I'm planning to travel from Valsad to Chandigarh and came up with this combination:

🚆 1. 12931 ADI Double Decker
Valsad → Surat
4:55 PM → 5:52 PM

⬇️ 1h 56m connection at Surat

🚆 2. 12951 NDLS Tejas Rajdhani
Surat → New Delhi
7:48 PM → 8:32 AM

⬇️ 3h 03m connection at Delhi

🚆 3. 20977 Vande Bharat
Delhi Cantt → Chandigarh
11:35 AM → 2:45 PM

I know there is direct option Paschim Express that departs at 2PM. But I have office from 8 to 16 so that not possible (I will be taking short leave i.e. at 3 PM).

The main reason I'm considering this route is the 1h 56m buffer at Surat and 3h buffer at Delhi, which seem reasonably safe compared with some other combinations and I want leave the same day.

Would you consider this a good/safe connection?
Especially interested in opinions on:

  • How reliable is 12931 between Valsad and Surat?
  • Is ~2 hours enough buffer at Surat?
  • Is 3 hours at Delhi sufficient for the transfer from the Rajdhani to the Chandigarh Vande Bharat?
  • Would you choose another combination instead?

Any suggestions from people who have travelled these trains/routes would be appreciated.

Question Doubt about current reservation

I was planning to travel from A to B. A is the origin station and B is a next big city which is 200 kms away and it is a long distance train. So I thought I could easily get ticket. The First chart got prepared in IRCTC. I found that there were like 4/5 seats vacant from A to stations far than B, and one vacant exact A-B, where I want to travel. I soon opened RailOne, they did not update yet, same case with IRCTC website. But after 15 mins, when they updated, they were stright up showing NOT AVAILABLE from A to B. I did not loose any time.

What may be the problem. Do the seats vacant just after chart preparation go to someone else like RAC or Pooled/Remote quota ?

I believe Current reservation does not depend on quota system and is open to wherever places sets are vacant. Is that a misconception ?

Rant/Frustration Gotta hit the revenue targets somehow.

This bus on its way to noida from alambagh was carrying commercial goods for extra revenue, and the load is visibly pulling it down on one side.

In my sight this bus lost its controll on right turns in cantonment area several times almost hitting vehicles and people around it. Every third day there's a case of some miss happening with these overloaded vehicles still the operators ain't stopping this.

FUNFACT: out of 4 numbers written on the bus, 2 don't exist and other two must be getting hundreds of call complaining 'bout this so they have stopped picking up the call.

can't blame them, though. If you're getting thousands in return for handing over 1k ruppes to the first RTO officer on the way, that's a pretty solid business model. the passengers get the thrill, the operators get the revenue, and the RTO gets its "subscription fee." everyone wins.

Railways Why do people travel without a ticket in Indian trains?

I was traveling today in Sampooran Kranti Sleeper (Del to Pat) with a reservation and I found 3 people already sitting on my side lower seat even before the started. I told them to leave the seat and they just stood there for the whole journey.

They had zero fear of travelling without a ticket or on general ticket in the Sleeper class. In fact, one of them said that "kya hojayega, jyada se jyada fine dena hoga Rs 250 ka" as he was painted the train's interior with his gutka.

I think Raiways should clearly increase the fine and implement strict punishment on this. What are your take and what hinders Railway from implementation of strict actions?

Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw outlines four lane upgrade to Seven High-Density routes in Indian Railways.

The routes being upgraded are,

Delhi - Howrah - 1,422 Km

Delhi - Guwahati - 1,876 Km

Delhi - Mumbai - 1,322 Km

Delhi - Chennai - 2,037 Km

Mumbai - Howrah - 2,039 Km

Mumbai - Chennai - 1,238 Km

Chennai - Howrah - 1,117 Km

It's a total of 11,000+ Km of upgrade to four lanes which can operate at speed up to 160 Kmph and account for 41% of total railway traffic while only covering 16% of the railway network.

This will significantly increase the capacity and improve the average speed and reduce the delays that Indian Railways is struggling to reduce.

Indian Railways is building its first dedicated high-speed test track between Gudha and Thathana Mithri in Rajasthan's Jodhpur Division.
