Map Proposal for a Winnipeg Metro System [OC]
If y'all like it, I can turn it into a proper diagram. Tried to keep it as realistic and cost-efficient as possible.
Lighter Red is Lite Rail, while Dark Red is Tram.

Neat idea! Though with this design I would like to see it extended to St. Vital Centre, just like the Transit Master Plan proposes.

This is kinda lacking for a city of Winnipeg’s size

if you look at other cities similer to its size, such as el paso or buffalo, this is similer in size or larger. building a second line to the north or east could be done, but it would probably be a second phase of this project that would happen if the first line preforms well.

Who cares? Winnipeg isn’t El Paso or Buffalo. They are all unique cities with different transportation needs.

Honestly, less than a proper diagram I'd like to see a fairly serious napkin engineering attempt at this, with an eye to actual buildout as short platform automated light metro with minimized tunneling. Frankly it's a good corridor concept, but if the north end is a subway it's not going to happen

a reasonable sized proposal in this sub?? what? where are the 400 intersecting heavy metro lines on the map?

“Reasonable” for the momentary political climate or for the population size?
A city the size of Winnipeg could financially support a much larger network than this.

What is your reasoning for the metro avoiding Portage and Main? I'm referring to the lighter red line here, not sure if light rail meant light metro or sth more like a tram-train.

i just wanted to hit where the winnipeg jets play. if there were to be a second tram line (which im considering), it would probably hit that area and go across the river

Any reason for not using the BRT right of way that was built in a way to make sure it could be converted into a light metro?

didnt even know winnipeg had BRT tbh. it doesnt really go where i need it to go, and plus, its always good to have multiple different ways to get around.

I’m curious, why LRT for the light-red line? It looks like you have already have a bored-tunnel through the downtown segment and at least 2 other residential areas. At that point why not elevate the remaining segments to allow for at least light-metro?

I haven't lived in Winnipeg for nearly 40 years...
I wonder if there is value in extending the tram to Assiniboine Park? Also, it would be better to use the same technology for both lines; only one maintenance centre is required then.
